YUM!! Fritters!

Like a donut. Dough mixed with apple bits and cinnamon throughout, deep fried and dipped in icing. Best when warm, but good anytime. Check out Safeway, Albertsons, Cosco, Fred Meyer, Thriftway, QFC or any major food store. They will all have them. You have to try one out.

Apple Fritters
Try it with peaches, too! Prep Time: approx. 25
Minutes. Cook Time: approx. 10 Minutes. Ready in: approx. 35
Minutes. Makes 20 fritters (20 servings).
Printed from Allrecipes, Submitted by Pat
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
2 quarts oil for deep frying
4 large apples, peeled and cored
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
for dusting

Directions
1 In a medium bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking
powder, nutmeg and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together
eggs and milk. Stir milk mixture into flour mixture until smooth.
2 Heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) in a deep
fryer or heavy bottomed deep pot or skillet.
3 Slice apples into 1/2 inch rings. Dip apple slices in
batter and fry, a few at a time, turning once, until golden.
Drain on paper towels and dust with confectioners' sugar.

This does not sound like the apple fritters I get. The apples are diced and mixed in the batter. Then they are deep fried in big ol' lumps that flatten out to about the size of a big man's hand. They look like they were dropped on the floor. Yours sounds like fired apples (must be a regional difference.)

Actually telos, the ones that we eat are like the ones that you describe. More like a dougnut than anything.

But this is the only recipie that i could find and it sounds good too!

I don't think you would want to try and make the others at home. So much easier to head to the dougnut shop at Walmart.

Telos,

I only know those smashed up ones too - I don't know about fritters made with apple rings.

I think I might actually have a recipe around - but it will take me a few days to dig it out. Once I do, I'll post it over in the Frugal forum so ya'll can make some real fritters.
