He has a skin disease that makes his skin blotchy-partially white, partially dark. My mother-in-law has the same thing even tho she is not African-American. Why he has decided to use make up to make it all white instead of all dark is the mystery tho!

stking..that what I had read and heard as well. My elderly neighbor has a condition that kinda looks the same way. My sons asked him one day how he got so badly burned because it does look like the top layer of skin on his hands has been peeled off. Thankfully he explained to them in a way that they understood.

It is my understanding that he does "acid peels" to get his skin the same uniform color. You think it started with that Pepsi commercial?

Wow! I just caught a few minutes of the show, where these other guys were singing and "dancing", and I was SHOCKED at how obsene they were! They would bend themselves backwards into a bow shape and then thrust and grind . . . Good grief! Did anybody else find this disturbing (that KIDS were watching this!), or is it just me becoming an old fuddy-duddy? My friends took me to Chippendale's (male strippers) once, and I don't think they were even that bad, and their show was for adults only! |

Ok..I feel a little goofy saying this really because I don't know what I am talking about, but what telo posted was something else I had read some where also. Just never know the truth do we...LOL! Ok, IF he really does do these acid peels I wonder if it's all because of this "condition" he says to have? Also, here's my goofy question..ok, I am white..not albino white, but still..ok, I feel better with a little color to my skin. So there we have make-up and tanning (thru natural ways or even sunless tanning lotions)..Now, I've seen many pictures of him in his younger years and he was pretty dark...are there black people who feel "uncomfortable" about being really dark skinned just the same as I feel uncomfortable when I am extremely pale? I would think there is. Maybe the same could even apply to black ppl. who are fairly light skinned as well. Ok..so there's my goofiness...for now ![]() I don't mean to sound like an idiot..I went to school basically with one color girl and you should have heard me then..I asked so many questions she had to tell me to shut up now and than..LOL! Heeeey, how else was I gonna learn?!?! LOL! Naw, she was really sweet to put up with me..I also really know only one black girl now..I bug her about other stuff tho, she's married to a friend of Kenny's that is white, so there's always things to talk about when it comes to that...lol. We actually had to have a talk with our 8 year old the other night about racial discremmination. His father works as a "handy man" at an income based apartment building. Well, he came home the other night saying that he over heard some talk and there wasn't going to be Mexican ppl. allowed to rent any more. Well, I said "Now..gee that makes a lot of sense doesn't it? Logan, you and I have dark brown eyes, now lets say I rented an apartment and totally destroyed it, then you came along and wanted to rent one..how would you feel if they said because the last dark brown eyed person we rented to destroyed her apartment, we won't rent to you?" He said what I did shouldn't matter, we're two different people. Later that night I had to comfort him because he was crying thinking of ppl. not having a place to live just because of their skin. I told him not everyone was like that and they are all better off to have not moved into these apartments if this was the path of thinking the managers had. Dang..I don't even have a caffeine buzz and I still managed to take this soooooo off topic..sorry!

| Just for FYI The condition is called Vitiligo.
What is vitiligo? Vitiligo is a fairly common non-contagious skin condition for which the cause is unknown. It can occur at any age, but usually starts in young adults. For most people, it starts with a loss of pigment in patches that are usually symmetric (meaning in the same areas on the two halves of the body). Areas that are often affected are the corners of the mouth and eyes, hands, elbows, knees and genitals. Patches can come and go, but in some people the patches can spread, involving almost the entire body and eventually take over the skin's natural pigment. This is known as vitiligo universalis. Hair follicles can also be affected, resulting in patches of white hair. Though the cause is unknown, it is clear that the body's immune cells attack the pigment producing cells of the skin (called melanocytes). Since the patches without pigment no longer have melanocytes, they are very susceptible to sunburns and skin cancer. Sunscreens are very important. Treatment for vitiligo varies. Some people's patches respond to cortisone creams. A variety of light treatments (such as something called PUVA) can help. There is ongoing research to find faster and more effective ways to treat this frustrating condition. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Michael Jackson: In addition to a gradual change in facial features, attributable to plastic surgery, Mr. Jackson has also exhibited a gradual lightening of skin pigmentation. A few years ago, Mr. Jackson made it known that he had vitiligo, a medical condition that explained his fair skin. Mr. Jackson may very well have vitiligo, but as stated above, most people develop symmetric patches that slowly spread to larger areas. One does not lose pigment all over as quickly as he appears to have. He has vitiligo, but seems to choses to masks the areas of normally pigmented skin with makeup or bleaching agents, which is not uncommon in people who are uneasy about their condition. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Definition: Vitiligo is a disfiguring medical disease whose cause is unknown. Vitiligo causes destruction of melanocytes in the skin, mucous membranes, eyes, inner ear, and occasionally in hair bulbs. Melanocytes provide the pigment that gives skin its color. The loss of melanocytes alters both the structure and function of these organs and results in the absence of pigment. Scope: This disease affects an estimated 1% of the world's population. It affects individuals of all ethnic origins and both sexes. Loss of pigment most commonly is noted first on the hands, feet, arms, face or lips. Frequently this disease is progressive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Some of this was found on [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I lost my connection before I got the other URL, had to resign on and redo this post. UUGGG!*** I saw a little girl and her grandmother on Montel a few weeks ago that have this and over time, the grandma became just a "white" as I am, with no blotchiness. The little girl was still in the blotchy stage and looked as if her skin was peeling off, even though it was not. Paula, your boys were right, it does look as if the skin was burned badly.
