Telos: The joke is that after a Democrat has been robbed...he ( or she) becomes a staunch Republican wanting tougher laws and punishment.

After a Republican has been arrested...he (or she) becomes a staunch Democrat wanting looser laws and demanding more leniency and rights!

Just an old saying back from my Political Science days!
