Getting ready for taxes. Who does their own taxes?

I have always done ours but now with our business I'm wondering if I shouldn't just have someone else do it.

I also do many of our friends taxes. These are all rather simple tho.

DH does our taxes, using Turbo Tax. It's a great little program and we usually get it for about $10 (or maybe free?) if we also get the Quicken upgrade..... Way cheaper than having a tax preparer do it, and ours are pretty straight-forward...

Last year I did both our state and federal taxes online. The fee was something like $29, but our refund was in our checking account within 10 days or so. I'll be doing it that way again this year.

I've done our taxes myself for 26 years. I use TurboTax......really easy! Once I have all the information together that I need to do them, I like doing them. I like doing them, because we always get a refund!

It all depends on how your business did, how much money was moved, what kind of business, looking for write-offs or not, etc. There is no yes-no answer to your question. Last year my business was simple enough that I could do it on my own. Last year it also took a lot of time since I had about 200+ entries just for stock sales. It would have cost a buttload to have an accountant do it since they'll charge like $1 or $2 for each sale entry relating to stock sales.

I'm not one. I just read the tax forms and know how to punch numbers in my calculator.

of course if you have a mortgage, business, etc. then it'll be harder, but with the tax softwares out there these days, its a piece of cake.

I don't know, I just know that we didn't do to great being our first year. It's a construction company so does that mean anything special?

You can also do Turbo Tax on line. It costs 9.95. They save your stuff, so if you are not ready to finish, you can come back another day and finish your form.

I do our taxes using Turbo Tax online also. It is wonderful. Just type in the info and it does the calculations for you. Plus we get it filed electronically for free because of our income. Refund is in the bank in less than 2 weeks!!

Here is the address freesurfer:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

I think that you would need to go down to the bottom of the page and click on Turbo Tax for the Web. It is not currently up and running because it is not tax time but I am sure that it will be soon. This is what it says:

TurboTax for the Web for the tax year 2000 is no longer available. Make sure to come back and use TurboTax for the Web for the tax year 2001 (available this coming January). See you soon!
