I asked DH and he tells me this -

Exit all applications

Go to DOS Prompt

C : Drive

and type del /s bad_trans.b

That should delete the file. Then run the scan again to make sure ... no more infections. HTH.

Let us know.

This virus infects files that are loaded when windows loads up. You can't delete them from within windows, since they are in use. You have to go to DOS (real DOS mode, not a dos prompt) and deal with them.

Its annoying, but generally not particularly serious in and of itself. Just follow the instructions from kazman's link and you should be fine.

Call me a DUMB blonde but.....

When I'm in DOS at C: here is what happens:

I typed in delete and the files listed at Kaz site.
I either get invalad switch, invalad path or ?something else.

Any more ideas?
Sorry if I'm driving you all crazy.

Think I'm about in tears here.

boot up your puter into dos directly

you'l probably see a c: prompt.

then type: dir

and depending on what operating system you're using you should see a directory called window, windows, winnt, etc. i believe

then type: cd window, or cd windows, etc. for whatever your directory is

then after it moves you to that directory you should see c:\windows, etc. as your prompt

then type: del INETD.EXE

then repeat the "del" with the other files that are listed in Kazman's link.

and that'll be $100 paypal.

After they're quarantined, it's safe to delete them. I had 2 quarantined a while back and because I uninstall and install Norton 2002 I was surprised that it still had the old files kept for me in a log. I went in today and deleted them. Poof, they are gone. You'll get a message asking if you really want to delete and then do it. I like Norton 2002. Always working in the background. I take it on and off because I just don't want it running all the time. When new scares come out I put it back. Housecall is good for a quickie checkup. Also, the problem with anti-virus is it doesn't ALWAYS find trojans. There are some neat li'l programs out that check for those. Lots of email virals are trojan horses.
