How many bake pies for Thanksgiving?

I'm suppose to bake pies but really don't have time (thanks to DOD heehee). I think I'm going to just buy them. Is that acceptable when you've been asked to bake them?????????????????

I either buy a fresh baked pie at the bakery or bake a frozen Mrs. Smith's or Sara Lee. Homemade pie is the only thing I don't bake. In our family it's perfectly acceptable.

With all the baking and cooking I do, PIES SCARE ME!
I just have a fear about baking pies.
Maybe one of these days I will face my fear, but not this year.

i'm doing 4 (pumpkin) from scratch...

but i agree that mrs smith's and sarah lee are pretty good. (you really can't say they are AS good.) but DO NOT buy a pie from your local grocery store if you were asked to bake it. i am not really that picky, but i'd so much rather my guest called me and said, "look. i just can't bake, and i wanted to let you know. would you rather i bring something else?" she/he may say no, but i sure wouldn't want store bought pies from my local groceries (kroger, meijer, winn dixie). they are relatively gross. (especially if i'd slaved over the oven for 2 days over home made mashed potatoes, roasted turkey and squash, cranberry chutney, etc., etc. etc.! )

We go over to my MIL's house for Thanksgiving. If I don't bake some kind of pie that my family likes, we don't eat dessert. My MIL is a fine cook, but she can't bake worth a hoot. She makes the worst pies.

I don't think I could get away with anything but homemade. I've already made 4 pumpkin pies - now all I have to do is the apple pies.

The kitchen and I don't mix. I've never baked a pie. I always buy them. (or I let my mom or sister buy them)

I don't really like pies so I bring cheesecake or some type of chocolate cake when I go to relatives for Thanksgiving.

Oh sure, I bake the pies... the frozen ones! Mrs. Smith's Apple Pie is awesome.. I love it. Unfortunately I got stuck with Sara Lee this year because not a single grocery store nearby carries Mrs. Smiths and I didn't have time to go on a hunt for it. I tried to bake an Apple Pie once but I didn't like the way it turned out. The apples were still crunchy and I like mine mushy in pies.

Occassionally I do bake one of my most requested (by the family anyway) Chocolate Chess Pies, but normally that's for Christmas.

I must say I do make pies, mostly pumpkin. Now the past few years I havent had to make the crust which was always the messy part! I buy the pillsbury already made that you press into a pie plate and shape out, NOBODY Knows with the flavor and since you can shape them yourself that they are storebought!
and they taste just as good, I just NEVER do the frozen pie shells.
if you like pumpkin pies but not near as much spices, follow the recipe on the libbys pumpkin label and make it only using the cinnamon, drop the cloves and ginger and it is really delicious that way!
Good Luck!
Sometimes I even take two of the crusts and spread into a big 9X13 cake dish connect them and shape it out and make a big pie like that so I dont have to use as many pans for the larger crowds of people and not as much stuff to carry either!
