Okay...here's my take..were you asked to BRING pies with the assumption they were homemade or specifically asked to MAKE THEM?

Well...this Mouse doesn't do the pie thang..once DH said he'd love to have a wild blackberry pie and he was going out to pick a "mess" of them. I had NEVER made a pie crust, but for 3 hours I practiced and finally when I thought I had it just right DH came in with this pitiful TINY bowl of berries. He said the skeeters were eating him alive and gave up. We had enough to use on ice cream that evening, but I WILL NEVER TRY THE PIE THING AGAIN! Mrs. Smith will do me just fine OR I'll buy the premade crust if I want something closer to homemade.

As we speak my Apple pie is in the oven and I'm going to make the pumpkin ones in a minute,I have a pumpkin roll cooling, waiting to have the filling put in ! I use to HATE to make pie crusts, then 2 years ago I got a food prosessor for a house warming gift, and since then it comes out perfect every time!!!
I just agree that store bought is yucky, but Mrs.Smiths and such, that you bake, sounds good. Around here a lot of my friends order them from the local High School bakery, still home made, just not in YOUR home!!! *lol*

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!!!

Oooops..I forgot to say that I agree w/ the few others here about the store bakery bought pies..I think they're disgusting..only because the couple I have bought have always had something seriously wrong with them. I'll buy the doughnuts, cakes, cookies etc.., but there's just something about the pie...sometimes I think they "pack" it too early and you end up getting that nasty SOGGY bottom crust.

jen6889, I'm the same way about the apples..those suckers have to be mushy. I don't like any fruit pies or crisps to even have a slight crunch to the fruit..blech!

All this talk of pie is making me so hungry!!!
I don't bake pies mainly because if I did I doubt they'd be edible. There are just somethings I'm not good at cooking.
You could always do what I'm doing this year, making key lime pie. It only takes a few minutes to mix up, stick it in the fridge, and you're finished. I know key lime pie isn't very Thanksgiving like, but it tastes great so nobody cares.
