| I LOVE my Prevacid. Don't no one try and take it away from me. It took me several years before I even saw a doctor about the heartburn (waited till I had it basically non-stop), but I've been on prevacid about a year and a half and I eat anything I want. Occasionally, I have some drinks while I am out, and the only negative effect seems to be my inability to get a buzz on. Since that little thing only seems to be since I've been on the prevacid, I have to think that the alcohol doesn't metabolize. The only time I have heartburn now is when I forget to take it and eat something like salsa. Darn expensive little pills, though. Thank goodness for drug coverage. |

| aaaw, sorry blue. I have problems with too much acid build up too. When I was really sick in March, here are a few things that helped me with controlling it. I was on prilosec, and I take it for when I really need it now...Watch things like coffee, or things with caffiene period, watch orange juice..acid...tomatoes, etc. They will have a tendancy to flair your tummy up. Same with alcohol..as scooter mentioned. Don't lie down after eating for at least a couple of hours...and no food 2-3 hours before bedtime. Now I did these things as well as found my way back to eating better foods..I to this day can't eat pork n beans(baked beans) and I have to watch salads...broccali, well, I stay away from that. But keep eating healthy...and somtimes light exercise helps. My girlfriend said that apple juice helped her feel better, where I found milk helped me. And it could be just the change in your eating habits that set it off...have they tested you for the bacteria in the stomach that often causes this??? It's called H-pylori? Sometimes if that's the cause, then they can give you antibiotics...and it will go away. It's a simple blood test...I went thru all those tests in June, just to find out it's just too much acid production in my stomach. Good luck!! Take care.. |

| Ugh blue - I know the feeling. Only I wish it was GERD here instead of yet another ulcer. The only advice I have is visiting webmd - they have some great discussion boards there. |

| I'm sorry. Acid is what breaks down the food you eat. Needed to function. Only bad thing is as you get older, the acid also wears away the stomach lining and it gets thinner and less able to tolerate too much acid. I have this problem. It comes and goes. I take pepcid. My ex-h had it very severe and took prilosec. It helped his GERD. Don't sleep lying flat. Try to get a few pillows under your head. They say raising the head of the bed on risers helps but that would mean your mate would also have to sleep that way. Try to not have too many hours with an empty stomach. Even a little food will help keep the acid from being "alone" in there. lol Nerves will activate the problem. Stressy stuff. After you get things under control to a dull roar, you'll be able to eat/drink more things. You need to heal the bleeding area if it's an ulcer. If you have GERD you need to heal the area where food goes down into the belly and doesn't come back up. It's like the sphincter muscle in the anus. If it's damaged it lets food come back up. Ugh. Nasty stuff. It can heal. Actually can reduce flareups greatly with the right meds. They are expensive, but they do work. Surgery sometimes is an option but I'm not so sure it is a final cure forever. Lifestyle changes are what has to be done.
