Smile Good Day Selling at Bazaar

I sold my Christmas crafts at the bazaar yesterday and made $400, which was much better than I thought I would do. I'm happy about that!

That's wonderful!!!

The craft fairs here in CT have been yucky (both the church bazaars and the indepent crafter fairs...) I think my 4 y/o must've put a spin on them because she asked me over the weekend "Mommy are we going to Crap Fairs today??"

Even the baked goods at these fairs have been prefab slice & bake cookies, dried out looking brownies & flat dry cakes...

...my favorite fair is coming up in 2 weeks so I have my fingers crossed they'll have something nice!! Kath

Congratulations!

We also have a crap fair here, Kath. The items being sold are nice (usually), but I wish ours was better attended. I really enjoy making things, but it's not worth my time & effort to rent space - you're lucky if you make $50 after expenses for an entires days worth of work.

You know...when I go to some of these fairs, I ask the people running it why it isn't better advertised - it's like I have to DRIVE BY these places and hope there is a sign out in front advertising the darned thing!

Here in CT, you have so many options to advertise a community event (one that is sponsored by a school, church, non-profit org. etc)...local newspapers give free ads...cable access channels do too...you can post things on the boards in supermarkets and other churches, as well as church bulletins...and many small free newspapers will gladly run a small mention of an upcoming craft fair (like an article, not like an ad if you know what I mean).

I swear these fairs have numbnuts running them at times...If I were in charge I would post things anywhere that I could, as often as I could, just to draw the crowds in... Kath

WTG!! I love going to craft fairs and bazaars, but don't get to go often as it's too hard with the little ones.....they don't quite understand "NO TOUCH!" no matter how many times I tell them....

This is the only one I sell at and it is well known in the community. I tried one last year and it had not been advertised at all and it was really crappy. So I stick with this one. I know it is difficult to attend with little ones. I had some stickers (freebies of course) that I gave to kids, and it didn't matter to me whether or not their parent bought anything. The kids loved them! I'll be stockpiling freebie stickers all year now, just to give them to the kids next year.

That's great! I love craft fairs. You can always find unique items for sale.

What kind of Christmas items do you sell?

To answer the question about what I make: this year I made 12" snowpeople as couples. They are made out of felt and stuffed. I make all of their clothes. I had a request for a 50's couple, which was really fun. I also made some draft dodgers to put in front of the door to keep out the draft (they have snowman heads and legs spread out). As for where the money is going, I'm using it as part of the cost of buying my daughter and granddaughters a computer so we can stay in touch better (she lives across the country). I've even talked my ex-husband (her father) to kick in for part of the money!

Ooooooooh I love going to the craft shows, fairs and bazaars..it seem tho I forget most of them because I see an advertisement for it and buy the time the day is drawing near, you don't hear another word. If I wrote this stuff down it would be a big help, but there are times I'm out and about and forget all about writing it down 2 seconds after I see it. I have done a few crafts for shows, but really where a friend of mine was taking care of it. Since I have three sons, it's not the easiest thing to plan around them. I do better by having DH take in a few things to his work place..I have also stopped doing that, he seems to take orders..LOL! We're not talking 3-5 things..people will order 3-5 things a piece and when you have at least 30 people doing that with DH telling them they'll be delivered 3 days later...well..I wanna ring his neck. I had one craft (use a glass ball ornament as a base for a lace angel) that took at least 45 minutes to make each one, because I really get into specific little details..well, he came home with an order of almost 100 of these suckers..LOL! Worse yet, I had four days to have them all done. I was FURIOUS! I literally had eveyone in the family helping, even my Mom helped me..LOL! Not only was it the time making them, he didn't even seem to think about the materials I needed, I mean...I had to go to so many different craft stores/department to get everything I needed, which of course was time loss for making them. I literally went w/o sleep for the most part..oh yeah, this was in the month of December, like I don't already have enough on my plate. LOL! That was the last time I gave him anything to take w/o saying.."If you take a single, I will beat you in your sleep! Sell only what you are taking...THAT'S IT!" LOL!
