Compatibility issues with Windows XP Home - HELP!

I wasn't going to, but the great deals that have been offered with the purchase of Windows XP convinced me to go ahead and upgrade. I thought it would be simple, but NO-O-O-O.

When I printed the Upgrade Report during installation, the following issues were stated:

1. CanoScan N1220U is not compatible with Windows XP.

This was solved (I anticipate) by going to the Canon website and downloading the updated drivers.

2. Software that might not support Windows XP: AOL Instant Messenger, Gator, Millenium Keyboard, and WeatherBug.

Now, I imagine three of those can be upgraded by reinstalling the latest version from their websites. But my keyboard...what do I do about THAT???

3. Windows XP does not support Personal Web Server and will remove PWS during upgrade.

THIS one is a biggie (I think). I run Microsoft Front Page 97 to publish my webpages. It requires PWS to run. What do I do about that?

4. Your installed version Norton AntiVirus is designed for Windows 95 and Windows 98, and will not run under Windows 2000.

This one I can't figure out, since it was pre-loaded when I purchased my computer from Gateway a year ago. My computer has always used Windows ME, and Norton AV has worked just fine. Maybe this issue, if there really is one, can be resolved by visiting Norton's website and downloading updates there. I haven't checked on this one, yet.

I really want to get this installed, but I won't until these issues are resolved. Has anyone else encountered similar problems? If so, please share any information or helpful ideas here.

Thanks!

Awww, tasker, thanks! I'm surprised that you can't help me, since I know you have in the past, and I know that you know a great deal about computers. I don't feel like a novice, but I still don't know a lot, either.

I just sent an e-mail to your friend. I hope he can help!

I have a feeling that I'm going to have to buy FrontPage 2002 if I want to continue to use that for my web publishing. I guess that would be okay, if I can find a cheap copy of it. I kind of hate to do that, since 97 has served me so well.

The thing with the Norton Antivirus is that WinME and Windows 2000 are NOT the same thing. WinMe is based on Win98. And Windows 2000 from NT, I believe. So that might be the compatibility issue there.

Wow, tasker, I got an answer already!! His recommendations:

Dump WeatherBug and Gator. I LOVE Gator........

Upgrade my Norton AV program and FrontPage. (Kind of figured this with FrontPage, but didn't expect that with Norton, since my computer is so new - well, relatively new)

He said I'm lucky that Canon has provided new drivers for the scanner already. He said scanners are usually the last thing to be updated. GO, CANON!!

I guess I won't install XP until I get the Front Page thing resolved. I'd hate to not be able to access my Website.

Thanks again for the referral, tasker!
