I have to vent! Sorry. I hate my DD's school district!! We live in a fairly small town, and if you live within the borough limits, all of the kids have to walk to school!! ![]() I am happy that the kids are back in school, but I have to fight traffic every morning to take Amber to school and it's not safe when you are taking her to the high school. That's how we got in our accident on May 23 this year. A kid pulled out from a stop sign and ran right into the side of my car doing over $1,200 damage. And the kids are so disrespectful because they walk out in front of you like they own the roads!! ![]() Anyhooo back to the complaining. My DD is about 200 yds away from a bus stop to go to school, but because we don't live outside the borough, she has to walk. Both ways it's a 2 mile hike!!

My son walks because we are only 3 blocks from the junior high but I drive my girl to an elementary school on the other side of town. She could get a bus at the corner for the elementary school here, but I don't want her going to that school so I have to transport her.

My kids take the bus. The elementary school is a 10 min walk, but until last year there was no light on the busy street they would need to cross. Now there is a light but I don't think there are any plans to have walkers. Too cold in the winter, too. There are even "issues" with waiting for the bus in the really cold, cold weather. All my kids walk 5 houses away to catch a bus to their respective schools. Can't complain about that! |

My DH works on the other side of town (about 20 miles) and my DS's preschool is on the other side of town. So naturally my DH drops him off on his way to work. In Arizona you can attend any school in any district that you want, as long as you can get yourself there. So when my kids are high school age they get to go to work/school with Daddy!!! LOL I bet that they are going to love that. My DH and I sure will, he'll be able to watch their every move. HE HE ![]() CATA5 - You have nearly 1400 posts, why no cool avatar? Just curious. LOL

My chillin's walk to the end of the drive and ride da bus to school...unless of course I have to pull one of those fuzzy slipper, baseball cap kinda mornings..lol! It takes me about 8-10 minutes to drive them to school, but I have to say..I couldn't do it on a daily basis. They don't have a near big enuf of parking area as they really should have. There is suppose to be news schools built within the next few years, only because our elementary school in this district is actually in two different city's..they've sort of "split" this district up between the two...my kids as it is have an hour ride on the bus on their route home and if these new school is built and my youngest is still in the elementary level, he will have a lot longer than that to ride the bus. Grrrrr. Well, I guess I shouldn't complain huh

What kills me the most is that all kinds of buses pass in front of our house everyday!! I don't understand why it can't be arranged with the bus companies to pick up our kids. I don't mind taking Amber to school, but I just hate to drive over there because of the kids and of course I'm still leary about the accident. It's only about a 5-7 min. drive. She doesn't mind walking home because she can hang out with her friends for a little bit before it's time to come home. They go to the Giant store and play on the mechanical horse! LOL!! Kids!

my kids have alway ridden the bus. We now live on the edge of the school district and DS has to get the bus at 6:40 AM for a 40 minute ride to school that should take only 15 min max. Sadly they don't take into account the High School kids are usually large people with after school activities. DD always complained there were not enough seats, music instruments in the isle and they are basically sardined into the seats. All this and a 170 dollar a year School Tax increase and to top off the fun they have already told us they will go back the first 4 days so they can get their paychecks and health benefits and then out on strike they go. Because the teachers union is basically demanding a 10% annual increase over the next three years. This and a 14 week a year vacation. Must be nice. Please don't get me wrong, there are alot of teachers out there that deserve great pay, the trouble is there are also alot that don't. Sorry went off topic, needed to do a little vent. |

My husband takes the kids to school in the morning(He works nearby and they would have to leave 1 hour and 10 minutes before school starts to catch the bus to get there and its only a 10 minute ride to get there. They ride the bus home though, they get a bus to the public high school, get off that bus and get onto another bus! If my older daughter didn't ride the same bus as my younger one(who started Kindergarten today) I wouldn't let her do it after school.

We live less than a mile from the elementary school dd goes to, and she rides the bus. Most of the time I take her. She hates riding the bus for 1/2 hr,,,,when we live less than a min. away.

Standerson- When everyone was looking for avatars, I was checking them out too, but never found one I really thought I liked. Then I got sick of lookin'.LOL Now that people are using personal pics, I may look into that. I like them and it has been fun watching members adding or changing theirs. I'd love to show off my 5 kids, but I'm all weird about having their pic on the net. So, I guess one of these days I may surprise you! |

I drive my daughter to school too. There are several reasons why. #1 reason being because last year was my daughter's first year of school and I am a freak and I worry about my child getting to school safely. If I drive her, I know a competant person is driving and I know she gets there ok. Second reason is that I know my daughter is next to impossible to wake up in the mornings and to have her up and ready by 6:20 AM to catch the bus... HAH!! School also does not start until 8:30 and it's only 20 minutes away - why the heck would I want her to ride that long on the bus?? AND.... the last reason is that when we first moved here, I had a bad experience with one of the bus drivers that drives down our road. Keep in mind this is a smaller rural road with ditches on both sides and nowhere to pull over, but still plenty of room for two cars or school bus or even a big old dump truck to pass each other. Anyhow, I was on my way out, saw the bus coming so I slowed down and moved over to my right to allow her room to pass. This lady driving the bus sees me, stares right at me and instead of moving over to her right, she moves over toward the middle of the road, leaving me with NO room at all and I was forced into the ditch to keep from hitting the bus (or shall I say the bus hitting me??). ARGH! I was so mad. I should have called the school, but I wasn't sure of the bus number, not to mention I have such a temper that I have to wait days to settle down enough to discuss something like that without screaming and cursing (and that would have gotten me nowhere). I have had no more incidents with the bus drivers since. I actually was considering putting my daughter on the bus this year. I may do it just yet, either that or let her ride with our neighbor across the street. I don't know. It's nice to have an excuse to get out every day, but it would save gas money to let her ride the bus, not to mention that there were many days last year I was sick and it took everything I had in me to get up and take her to school. |

I drive my oldest son to school because we live 2 1/2 miles from his school. I live in the city limits so there isn't a bus available. It really makes no sense because the school is basically on the outside of town. He does have to walk home though because I am at work. When there are snow delays, then my dad takes him. My other son is still in elementary school. The school is only about 5 blocks from my house, but I take him because I take my oldest one to school. I know its crazy. |

Both my children take a school bus to school. I must say here in our school district it is pretty good because no matter where you live your children are entitled to ride the bus to school... Even if you live right next door they say you can still have your child picked up in your drive way and dropped off in the schools drive way... I know not every district has it that easy as I grew up in a district in Texas and my parents had to pay for a bus... I only wish that school busses had seat belts, that is the only thing we are missing here on our busses... oh that and air conditioners and the busses do get really hot during the summer.. |
