Question Does anybody get these telephone calls?

The telephone rings, it comes up unavailable on my Caller ID, I pick it up and I get this noise and nobody is there. I'm getting more and more of them everyday. When I *69 it, I get it is not in my serving area.

I even waited and nothing.

Cool

From what I understand, the idiots that love to call...
(take your pick, ATT, VISA, "Charities")

the dial like 4 or 5 numbers at once, and whoever answers first, they talk to them, and the others get to hear nothing.

Thats why I wait till avter the 3rd ring before I answer, anymore

We were just talking about this at work the other day. One of the girls came home from work and had 40 messages from the same number 5 minutes apart on her Caller ID. She called the phone company and found out it was a fax machine dialing her number. The phone company faxed a note to the place attempting to send the fax and told them that the number they were trying to send the fax to is a residence and after that she didn't get any more calls.

lesmun is welcome here
This is what is happening, the telemarketers have what is called a phone bank. It will ring like 100 numbers at a time and the first person to answer is the lucky one( or unlucky one). All the rest will be just a dead line with no tone or anything. The telemarketers will have various amount of people working in what they call a boiler room, so if you have 20 people calling the first 20 people that answer thier phone are the ones they talk to.
In case you are wondering yes I worked in one of these places about 12 years ago and the biggest companies were just starting at that time to set up this phone bank calling program.
I know this irritates me too.

Post Just a quick note:

Hope this MIGHT help!!!

I'm not positive that this # is still valid, but our local phone company {Ameritech} gave it to me to call back in April when we were getting these "hang up" calls all the time!!! It seems to have helped, now we might get 3+ a month, instead of like 3-7 a DAY!!!

1-888-567-8688
To be removed from telemarketing/mail lists for Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.

Ameritech also gave me these addresses, but I did not write to them:

Lesmun and PhRed, thanks for the info. I always wondered why I get alot of calls with no one there and that totally explains it! Now I know- I'll either answer on the first ring or let the machine get it! Thanks!
