Science project for kids

Ok this is a "science" project for kids....

1) Put an egg into a clear glass or coffee mug.

2) Fill with vinegar (to cover egg at least)

3) Observe what happens day to day

Ok I spose you want me to tell you what happens...

expect the shell to be "melted" away in a day
you'll be able to see the yoke inside the egg in 2 days
egg will feel rubbery to the touch in 3 days

I dont know how long it takes, but eventually the egg will bounce off the floor... Just dont treat it like a bouncy ball... I did this as a kid and remember winning something...

Unless you like the smell of vinegar, you probably will face some discomfort... I'm hyper sensitive to it, so I'm gonna have problems, cause I'm gonna do the project again... Maybe in a couple of months I'll have a bouncy ball!!!

I am not worried about the vinegar smell. I am worried about the rotten egg smell........ yuck! I suppose the vinegar pickles the egg????

Wow good question... I dont think my mom would have tolerated any rotten egg smell when I was a kid... I guess I'll just find out by doing it

So what is the "purpose" of this experiment? And what type of a hypothesis would you use?

Hey snooze, just take an egg right out of the fridge... Make sure your son does'nt handle it though... Thats why I recommend a clear glass, so you can see the egg... I just started one the other day, and the shell is gone... I'd say in a couple of months it will bounce, maybe less but dont hold me to that..

Brittwoman, there is no real purpose, other than trying to get the egg to bounce off the ground... And hypothesis is too big of a word for me, so I wont touch that

Don't mind me....the science fairs my kids have to do EVERY year drive me insane and I'm always looking for new experiments for them to do. We ALWAYS win and I like to keep things new and different for the kiddies!

and just make sure you save those science fair projects because I have one up and coming that will need them and no way am I sitting there dong all new ones when you have perfectly good proven ones already LOL!!!
