We're throwing our son a 'Survivor' themed birthday bash for about 2 dozen friends. I need as many ideas as possible for this. We planned to find some small stumps of wood for the kids to make totems with arts/crafts items for decorations. We can make necklaces out of beads and string. But I really want some fun games and projects that will be less expensive to do, because of the number of children. Also, where is the website that sells Survivor items? I thought it had ideas I could pull from? Its not [Only registered and activated users can see links. Eating weird foods was part of that show.Standing on top of the log seats, climbing things, running though mazes, answering trivia questions, and filling buckets of water.Mud tug a war, and crawling under things if the kids are dressed to get dirty. If you are having the party outside you could have teams fill buckets with water a spoonful or cupful at a time.Do trivia around information about the birthday kid.Make a maze for them to go through.Have them feed each other or make weird foods.Cove a cake with crushed cookies about the color of the dirt near your house and poke gummy worms in it.Surprise burgers where you put different things in the burger like cheese, mustard catchup. |

I think those are all good ideas. Maybe try Halloween type foods with lots of insects in them... I don't know, maybe the gummy worms and grahm cracker "sand" got into the pudding or something like that...

Here's an idea on the food - they make all kinds of "gross" gummies nowadays - rats, spiders, bugs, and worms. Crush up oreo cookies and mix with chocolate pudding - put gummy worms on the sides of clear cups and spoon in the mixture. Top with more crushed cookies for dirt with worms - yummy! Also, at my school, a bunch of kids were in the talent show and they danced to a song called "I Will Survive" - don't know the singer - but it might be cute to play. There was another surviving song too - but I forgot it! Sorry! They were dressed in camouflage shirts and shorts - may be a cute theme! |

"I will survive" is by Gloria Gaynor. (Yes, I'm old.) I think Destiny's Child did another Survivor song. I work with kids a lot, and I'm sure you've already thought of this...but DON'T do any activities/games that involve voting someone off. This age group is VERY vulnerable emotionally, and it could be really devastating to a sensitive child. For crafts, what about putting out shells, pebbles, and other natural materials to make talismans? Depending on what you use, you can do this for just the price of glue. Kathryn |

WOW THANKS!!! Thanks for the link and all the fantastic, FABULOUS ideas!!! I agree with KathrynJB about not voting the kids off, and thanks for mentioning it. I am HUGE on self esteem, and have been concerned as to how to play the game without that part of it. Ideas? Perhaps specific awards on personal wins for each child? We do plan to award the winners for their wins on the trivia, contests etc. Will be awarding beads to put on their necklaces. We plan to barbeque pig (spareribs) and make rice. (who will eat it? I do not know, some kids are picky, will need to offer variety) We plan on providing pieces of wood and craft items for making totems. I love all the ideas you all shared!!! I am printing this out so we can prepare! THANKS! |

If you make the pudding cups with crushed oreos and gummy "bugs", make them small- dixie cup size. We made those for my son's bug party and they were wasted because of other food and because they are rich...but they were very cute! Another food idea: kabobs using fruit like pineapple, strawberries, etc. |

I had a party for someone here at work. We spun a wheel to eat the gross things. We auctioned off good food, we played the theme which we downloaded off the internet when she walked in. The biggest hit was superimposing her picture on the bodies of pictures I got from magazines of the real Survivors and the fake biography I wrote as if she was a contestant. We had lots of fun. I hope you enjoy your party!

Everyone sure gave you a lot of ideas. My only input is that my son went to a Survivor party for 10 years old. It was held in a gym - not a back yard - a common occurence in New York City. Anyway, they played simple gym games - dodge ball, etc. with the winner being the Survivor. Also, the party favor that he took home was a survivor t-shirt. The kids also wore the shirts during the party. Have FUN. |

Well, of course you HAVE to have rice, even if no one eats it...but I bet you they will when there are NO UTENSILS! (Save money AND be authentic!) Still thinking about healthy ways to do the voting thing... Kathryn |

Maybe have the group vote on which child should win something, but make it so that each child has to win something. For example, if you have five kids, make a list of five things, and have each child pick who he or she thinks should win each title. Tell them to vote only once for each child.
