Rolling eyes

I have 5 animals. 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Every year it costs me a small fortune for heartworm, flea, rabies and all the other vaccines they need.

Does anyone pay for pet health insurance. If so what do you think of it, is it worth it and where did you shop for it.

Thanks for any advice!

Cool

Jaxxie, I would like to know, too. I'm not even sure if it is available for small towns, but I would really like more information. With 6 dogs and 2 cats, I pay the vet a substantial hunk of dough.

That is why I do not have pets currently. I would love to have some right now, but I simply cannot afford to pay a lot of money to keep them healthy. When my cat got sick with leukemia (RIP), I had to pay almost a fortune just to find out what was wrong with her!! After she passed, I decided no more pets until I can truly afford them!!

I once picked up a brochure for my pets from my vets office .

I got the info and it was somewhat costly .

I dont remember what the company name was but I do remember it would of cost me about 500 a year for both dogs.

I couldnt afford it then and at this time I lost one dog march 2 and the other I will have to put to sleep soon..

Pet insurance is a good thing to invest in I think if you have one pet and he/she is young.

But for 5 pets it could become really really costly....

My current vet doesn't have an association with any of the pet insurance carriers - but he's incredibly reasonable, so luckily I don't need it right now.

I did have pet insurance when I lived in Florida and we had a dog & 2 cats. I don't think it was really worth it - I think I paid about the same for the insurance (I think it was around $300 for all three) as I would have paid for the shots & what have you (the insurance paid 100% for these), but if there had been an emergency then it would have made a big difference.

If you're thinking about the insurance, you will need to ask your vet if their office is affiliated with any of the insurance carriers (or else you'll have to change vets to find one that is).

I had it for one of my dogs for a few years.....the thing with the insurance is that the basic policy pays for illnesses and accidents, not "well pet care" and it increases drastically with each year older the animal gets. They have a "Gold plan" that covers part of the meds but not them all. I made the mistake of dropping the insurance and the next year my dog needed a 1500.00 operation and then 4 years later another 1100.00 one!
