| I receive InfoBeat Newsletter on a regular basis and this was one of the articles included (partial snippet). I didn't even know this type of free service was even available thru them, not surprising tho since I don't even have a free email addy with them anymore. I "downsized" my # of free email accounts some time ago. Yahoo was included...maybe I should have looked further into their free services. Seems to me that I didn't know about a lot of Yahoo's perks. I wonder now if what some of you said in previous posts is coming true now and many more "free" services will ultimately no longer be free? I guess time will tell. ~ ![]() "InfoBeat - *Yahoo! to charge for reading e-mail SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Yahoo! Inc., looking for ways to cash in on the popularity of its Web site, will start charging for its service that reads e-mail messages over the phone. Yahoo would not say what the fee will be, other than calling it a ``low monthly subscription'' in a notice on the Yahoo by Phone Web site. The charges are to begin May 7, though people signed up by then won't have to begin paying till June 7. The Internet portal said it would introduce more fee-based services this year as it tries to reduce its reliance on advertising _ which generated 90 percent of Yahoo's revenue last year. Yahoo by Phone allows registered users to dial a toll-free number and have a computerized voice read their e-mail, plus news, weather and other information. A Yahoo spokeswoman would not disclose how many people have been using the free service or how much money a subscription-based service might bring in." I'm not offerring an opinion on this, I just found it rather interesting. Don't think I'd have the head or heart for this type of business. I'd probably financially ruin the company because I'd let my personal standings run the show..yipes! Article is at: [Only registered and activated users can see links. | I didn't know there were so many forums for hate groups! I also didn't know about the free service reading emails over the phone. Seems like I always hear about the good stuff when it's gone! Interesting stuff, Mouse! |
