Yahoo! Removes Adult-Related Merchandise from Network
Company Addresses Users' Concerns Regarding Adult-Related Products and Advertising
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2001--Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) today announced it is removing adult-related products in Yahoo!®Shopping (http://shopping.yahoo.com), Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com), and Yahoo! Classifieds (http://classifieds.yahoo.com). These products include adult-related videos and DVDs available through sellers on Yahoo!'s network. Additionally, Yahoo! will no longer enter into new contracts for adult-related banner advertisements on the Yahoo! network. The implementation of these changes in the United States will take place over the next few weeks.

HA! Watch 'em backpedal now that they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak. They want the financial benefits of selling porn, but not the "associations" that go with it. When I read that first story yesterday, I thought, "they are too well-known by the general public to get away with this" and I guess it was true.

Great news!
I don't think Yahoo is hurting for money...after all when a business says they have a "loss", it is quite the opposite...say they project a 10 million gain up from a 5 million gain...but actual gain is 7 mil...so they say they have a loss???? Really? Sounds like a gain to me...

Oh no, yahoo auctions is no longer accepting adult auctions? That means I'll have to go back to ebay next time I want to buy anything [for a friend of a friend, of course].

Yahoo's profits are way down, and this could have kept them afloat. I hate paying for stuff, these perverts would have subsidized my free email,etc. Who knows, they'll probably start charging. And someone pointed out, in the original post by mayor, that DOD itself links to a site that sells porn. Its a free country. I mean, I'm very offended by the contents of the New York Times, but you don't see me trying to stop its sale.
