I am a "without bleach" kinda gal. No kids, so not many stains to deal with and I don't want our colors to fade. I really only bleach DH's undershirts and hankies once in a while. His white shirts go to the cleaners.

You know what? I don't even know how to use bleach. It's a foreign substance in my house. I do buy the stuff with color safe bleach because it just seems like it might do a better job. No one ever really gave me a good laundry lesson, I just kind of made it up as I went along. I do have a ton of stains due to my kiddos, and I just use Spray and Wash on them. The hard part is catching the stains before they hit the dryer. |

Without bleach. Hey, those of you that add your own...do you think there's any difference between store brand bleach and Clorox or Purex? My DH brought home some industrial strength bleach that he uses in the barn. It's more concentrated. 3 pairs of his underwear and I don't know how many socks simply disentigrated. I didn't know I only needed to use about 1/4 of what I normally used. His undies were just elastic with a bunch of strings hanging off...lol.

Back when I used to buy laundry detergent, I usually used the kind without bleach, but since I saw that thread in the frugal living forum, and tried it, I don't buy laundry detergent anymore; I make my own. Saves me a ton of money. And I don't buy fabric softener anymore either. I just use vinegar instead. Works well, and is SO cheap!

Usually I use one without, just depends on my mood at the store. Another question, what brand do you buy? After my son worked at a fast food chain, I only use SURF(It took the greasy smell out of his clothes) and then with Bounce, they smell great. |

The problem with using bleach is that (im a cheapskate)it drastically shortens the life of your clothes. but we still have bleach in the house because it kills germs while cleaning the bathroom and kitchen.

Okay, I have a question that I would love to have answered that is somewhat related to this topic...I make my own bleach cleaner in a spray bottle (a teaspoon of bleach in a spray bottle of water). But someone told me that it looses its disinfecting power after 24 hours, and that you need to mix a fresh batch every time. Can this be true?? I hope not!
