I support immigration, both "legal" AND "illegal"

Immigration makes America great. The next time someone says immigrants are taking their jobs, did they really want those jobs (in the case of "illegal" immigrants) or were they really qualified (in the case of "legal" immigrants).
If "illegal" immigration was stopped, how much would orange juice cost, $12/gallon. A room at the Motel Six, $150/night. Hey, Americans aren't gonna pick oranges or do maid services for the same hourly rates as "illegal" immigrants.
And "legal" immigration. How many Americans are even qualified for a lot of these high tech jobs. And how many jobs are created by small businesses, most of which are started by immigrant/entrepreneurs. When you vote against immigration, you vote yourself out of a job!
Some innner city school districts are recruiting foreign teachers, since there a shortage of qualified teachers, and of these teachers, they all want to work in the suburbs!
The reason I put "legal" and "illegal" in quotes, is because I think the system recognizes that we need "illegal" immigrants to keep the economy going, thats why the borders aren't properly enforced.
And its about time we passed another amnesty, like Reagan did in the 80s. He said if you were here 11years or more and paid your taxes and didn't do any crimes, you were automatically granted citizenship regardless of the status of your paperwork. Thats how my parents became citizens!

Boy blue, you can hop from Wrestling to more serious issues at the drop of a dime! LOL! I have to agree and disagree to an extent on your post. I lived in Florida for few years and worked at a pretty big chemical plant. Well, the ex and I had been involved in a car accident and my physical therapist refused to sign a work release order for me. I was home one day and my ex called me from work and relayed a message from our boss, he had said that I had better be at work the next morning or I could be easily replaced with an immigrant who wouldn't mind doing my job for next to nothing in pay. I needed my pay, simple as that. I called our attorney and he said there was nothing I could do legal wise because Florida laws were more or less a mess, I went in and demanded my therapist sign a release form, also I had to sign some documentation saying I wouldn't seek legal recourse on him if my back was more damaged from the heavy lifting etc...
I don't necessarily think immigrants take "our" jobs. I do think tho that many employers take advantage of the fact that these people just want to work and are so desperate to earn $ that many people lose out. Immigrants lose because they are poorly treated, citizens lose because of the employers..NOT the immigrants. I don't care who wants to come into the country, I also don't think there should be all this citzenship garble..heck, if you have the means or find the means to move your entire family from one country to another you must really want to be an American- good enough for me. Also, how many American citizens do you know of that sit on their butts and let the government pay for everything, for generations even..too many..let people come on over and make an honest living. This means tho that immigrants should be paid on the same pay scale as everyone..not for mere peanuts. Problems lie w/ employers, period. Just my opinion of course BTW..I also like the idea of amnesty.

No one should enter this country illegally. Do you know how many people work illegally and collect so much in taxes, by claiming children in foreign countries. My one major pet peeve is not learning the English language. Years ago when this country was formed our ancestors worked their butt off learning the language today they just don't care. When someone takes their driver's license test they have the option of taking it in a dozen different languages (pretty scary since all of our road signs are in ENGLISH) Welfare workers need to learn Spanish because people want to come over here, hop on the system and not know the language. If a non english speaking person gets arrested and the police officer doesn't speak their language and can't get a translator they have to be let go because God forbid they don't get their rights read to them in a language they can understand. I am sorry but that bugs me.

Mouse, you r a very neutral positive thinker in my opinion!

I am another person on temporary work permit. I left my "high salary" job a couple of weeks back, just because my pure american boss hates immigrants!!! Isn't it strange that the company promised me and gave me "written" incentive when they hired me to forward my papers for immigration purpose but my boss refused me. Then I told him and quit in a couple of days. Actually its not strange till this point, the strange part came when I was called and told by HR that they can NOT provide me with any services to transfer to any other department because my boss had FIRED me as per his paper work (with some totally weird reasons). What a surprise? Sorry it was my first job and I didn't realize that I should have gone to HR to do my resignation paper work (this I came to know from a co-worker whom I called for some advice, He thought the manager did it as a defensive approach against "written" incentive given to me by HR).

I was selected after 2 interviews for a competitive job and just b/c somebody's thought that IMMIGRANTS ARE OCCUPYING high salary jobs (even their own other people find them fully qualified)......this type of discrimination is NOT FAIR. I think I could even sue the boss but he knew foreigner are not gonna go for this. On my side I will not go back to such a company or a boss who cheated me.

Can I justify to say now that LOCAL PEOPLE NEED EDUCATION AND LEARNING TO RESPECT QUALIFICATIONS RATHER THAN RACE.
(of course it does include everybody!)

OMG, are you kidding me? What are you talking about? Do you have something against spanish speakers or are you ignorant enough to believe that the only immigrants who enter the US illegally are those who speak spanish?

Dev Hon, you know I love you to death! I would whether you were here legally or illegally. I know you are however legal. But I had one point to make, My DH will be going to French Canada very soon on a work Visa. If I used some people's line of thinking, then he should learn French or get out, right? Or since we are Americans does that mean that rule doesn't apply to us. The US IS and was formed from immigrants, it is a melting pot and not everyone spoke English when they came over to begin life as we know it here. Our country has always been a place where many cultures come together, to learn from, love and coexist. Many other countries do the same. We are different and yet we are just alike. I do think that English should be learned at his/her own pace, not as a requirement, just for the knowledge. I'd love to speak more than one language! But as for the immigration, I have to say that I am in agreement with Blue on this. I have several "illegal" friends that have been here for years, taken care of their own, worked hard and are afraid to go down to immigration for fear of being sent back to the horrors they endured before and losing everything they have worked so hard for here. I'm not ready to do that to anyone, illegal or legal.

I am also with Mouse, if there is something you need to say because this is a "heated" subject feel free to Email me. I'd much rather hear from you than Dev or any other member have those hurt feelings. Hey Mods maybe we need to close this one and take it to Emails???
