Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

I get annoyed easily so my list is long....

1. People who smack their gum.. That is just gross and disgusting

2. People who feel that they have to pull out in front of you and then slow down.. That ticks me off more then anything.

3. People who call my house and say "who is this"?. WTH, you called me, why are you asking who this is. Obiviously if you don't know my name you can't be wanting to talk to me that bad.

4. Telemarketers who feel they need to call you umpteen gazillion times a day even though you've told them to quit bugging you and that your on your states "Do not call list".

5.People who feel they need to be driving 30mph in the passing lane. Hello, its a passing lane, if your not passing someone then move over...

6. People who leave the toilet seat up. I have young kids who don't need to be playing in the toilet.

7. People having long conversations on their cell phones in public. Are they so important that they can't wait until they get home.

8. Parents/grandparents who can't keep an eye on their kids/grandkids. On friday there was a little boy who was probably 4 or 5 running outside with only underwear on. Mind you its been below freezing around here plus we had a nasty ice/snow storm thursday evening into friday morning.

9. Clerks or anyone else that does not say I'm sorry when they make a mistake.

10.People who "know better" than I do about how to handle or raise my kid, ESPECIALLY when they've never even been parents!

11. My DH who feels that its to much of a pain to take a glass out of the kitchen cabinet so he drinks out of the pitcher or soda bottle.

12. People who think that their crap don't stink.. I hate people who are so gung ho on themselves.

13. This could fit in with #12 but conseeded(sp?) people who think that your not going to survive without them.

14. WHINERS, need I say more???

15. People who think the world revolves around them..

This is all I'm going to write for now but I've got more!!!

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

Awesome everyone, thank you so much. I knew I could not be the only one with pet peeves, yet when I asked in the newsletter for responses, I only heard from 2 people.

Some of mine, include leaving the toilet seat up, even my cat Zeus will complain about that, he will run out and merp at you and run back in the bathroom until you follow him and close it. LOL!

Hanging the toilet paper or paper towels over the top, cats can make it a great play toy them, so can kids.

Someone who doesn't live here who brings in your mail, looks through it, and of course just sets it down somewhere and don't tell you they already brought it in. Same with delivered newspapers.

I agree with everyone else on the Handicapped space thing, I mean, I am sure if I asked my doc would fill out the papers for me to have a placard, but I will not get one, see I can still walk even if I need a cane most days, there is always going to be someone who really needs that space! I don't.

Same with those electric carts at the stores, I hate seeing someone who needs it struggling without one, just because someone else who is perfectly fine decided they wanted to take the lazy trek through the store.

Gum smacking and cracking and talking with your mouth full is something, I think, that annoys everyone.

I cannot stand when someone grabs my drink, or a bite of food from my plate, and thinks I am just supposed to accept their slobber and germs and eat or drink after them. I would much rather eat or drink after my cat, at least I know he is healthy and has no weird contagious diseases.

People who do not stay home when they are sick, like they want to share the 'fun' so they come visit. Even after I have told them a million times that Andy is diabetic and this practice could be very dangerous for him.

Someone who takes a big plate of food, takes on bite and says they don't like it, or they are full! Come on, this is just ridiculous and wasteful.

Someone who thinks our furbabies should be inconvenienced to make them happy, I don't think so, last time I checked they lived here, you didn't.

Anyone who won't watch their own kids and keep them in check, whatever the circumstances.

Anyone who comes to visit and gets too comfortable, they just help themselves to whatever they want, and act like this is their home. Come on, I don't act like that when I go visit my own dad. Even though he tells me I don't have to ask.

There are many more, but I want to here some more input from everyone else, so please rant away! Thanks.

My DH has the placard but won't use it unless he is in really bad shape that day usually if he is at the doc's. I hate people who park there with out one I have said things to them. Like I don't see a handicapped sticker. Then say oh I am so sorry you are handicapped aren't you, you can't read! I have had people in the car with me say oh you have a handicapped sign we can park close. It makes me so mad I politely tell them that is for my hubby then park at the other end of the lot so we have to walk a mile.

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

I have one to contribute because it happened yet again today...

When a store's cashier licks their fingers before reaching for a plastic bag (in order to separate it from the rest). That truly disgusts me, especially during cold/flu season. Then they hand it to me so I can touch their saliva! Ewww...

Can't they find another method?

My only other major one is adults who still can't differentiate between "there," "their" and "they're."

I'm convinced it must be genetic. My Mom, and to some extent my DD, are the same way as me. Sometimes I see typos in Newsweek, Time, newspapers, etc. (like some obscure person from the 80's whose name is misspelled!) and it just jumps out at me.

Kells3, I'll try to explain it. I hope I get this right.

There....is a place. Such as: I am going there for Christmas.

Their...is belonging to more than one person. Such as: Their car. Their house.

They're...is They are. Such as: They're going to Grandma's for Christmas.

I hope I got this right.

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

Oh Boy, I need a diversion & found this Peeve thing....

Sure Car stuff: like being cut off - parking in HCap zone when your not - cell phone unfocused drivers & people who see you in the car & let thier kids hit your car with the doors (& don't apologize) - thank god for sliding soccer mom vehicles, right!

Sqeezers: those who CAN afford stuff like paying for a movie - BUT don't even offer to buy popcorn when you pay, You feed them & they're always late & don't bring food, or offer to cook for you (even at your house)!
*Plus cry poor - hoping somebody will bail them out finacially - yet have money to shop for shoes! ETC!

Adult's complaining kids don't exercise: but won't take a 15 min. after dinner walk with them to get the ball rolling.

Cashiers who ask thier bag boys what thier wknd plans are (& I have embarrased some - by "answering a cashier" like she was ACTUALLY TALKING TO ME & told her my wknd plans)! - Good one everyone should try - LOL!

Beauty Salon Students: - While working on you, they speak another language to other students & Not talk to "YOU" THE CLIENT" (heck most woman talk to thier stylist, like men do to thier bartender & they get the courtesy of being spoken to "in the same language").

OK - I admit the toilet paper & toilet seat issues & even not squeezing toothpaste from bottom bug me..............

BUT THIS PEEVE PUTS KID'S IN DANGER!!

This has happened more than once since last xmas & it's repeating again!!

PARENTS (OR GRANDPARENTS) SHOULD ALWAYS BE AWARE OF WHERE THIER KIDS ARE IN STORES!!

Last year a (5-6 yr old) that was with an adult walked into a MALL store right in front of me. The adult & Kid got "seperated" real quick 'cuz the adult never looked back or called kids name! For "some reason" I kept track of where the kid was; thinking "whoever" the kid came with would be worried & I was looking out til' they arrived.\
(I stayed in "seeing" distance, but also worried if the "security camera's" - might've thought I was following a young child who was all alone). Gotta be careful!

A "differernt adult" that the kid recognized when kids name was call didn't happen til' about 20 minutes later & ON ANOTHER FLOOR OF THE MALL!

[u]Today, I witnessed something similar...

A kid probaby 2.5 - 3 year old was just standing all alone in a store Aisle. I looked around to see if anyone looked liked they might've been missing a kid (& may've not wanted anyone to know at the time"), since I heard nobody call a child's name for almost 5 minutes.

FINALLY - "Someone the child knew" called thier name & said "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE FOLLOWING ME"!!
DON'T THESE ADULTS REALIZE THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE KIDS COULD BE GONE IN "LESS THAN" 5 MINUTES!

May angels be with all kids that are in those shoes!!

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

OK, here goes.

It.Is.A.Turn.Lane.Not.A.Merge.Lane.

When someone is constantly whining about their poor state of affairs and you offer several options for improving their circumstances but they manage to shoot down every one with something akin to "I don't want to do that". It is easier to whine than it is to fix it.

In the grocery line, the person who lets out a pained sigh when I hand over my coupons to the cashier.

When my toddler is rude or doesn't use his manners and the person standing beside us says "That's OK". It's NOT ok for him to be disrespectful or rude and I always make him do the right thing before we move on. If only everyone would do the same.

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

Thank you flash that was easy. I will try and do it right but I can't guarantee it. LOL

Galena I always tell my children's teachers not to have me correct spelling unless there is an answer sheet because I can't spell. One of them said when she spelled she saw the word in her head as she was spelling it. Heck, I don't see anything in my head when I'm trying to spell something. I guess thats my problem. LOL Now I love to read, but that sure does not make me good at spelling.

Funny story, my son's kindergarten teacher had all the classroom supply cubbies labeled...the problem is, she misspelled "scissors" (it said "scissers") -- the teacher had unique handwriting so I know it was her error. Every time I looked at that label I wanted to say something (or fix it when no one was looking), but I restrained myself as I didn't want to correct a teacher.

Oh, now that's bad! No wonder a lot of kids can't spell.

A couple more ...

Moochers - and this includes those 'beggars' at the entrance to WalMart. (My local paper once did a series of interviews of these 'poor people', and turns out they were making over $45,000 a year by panhandling.)

Those irritating car shoulder belts that choke me because I'm not very tall.

Telemarketers - even though we're on the DNC list.

Oh, and WATER SPOTS!!!

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

Easy - walmart

Walmart makes me cringe... I never have a purely pleasureable experience there... it's like people just toss all basic human etiquette at the door as they walk in.. who needs manners in walmart?? No one, apparently. I think it sucks. It's the only major store in town which, as a mom of three under 5, I need everything under one roof...kwim? Otherwise I'd ban it entirely from my weekly to-do.

Vent over.

Re: I want to know your Pet Peeves!

Okay, I was just reading most of these and I happen to agree with some, and as a mom/wife/woman, I have trouble with these :
1. Okay, women, it is understandable not to want to sit on toilet when peeing, but please wipe it off after you are done!
2. NO TOILET PAPER! when at a store or restaurant or mall, I try to at least keep tissues in my purse just in case.
3. Walmart shoppers, especially on weekends! It is ridiculous the lack of manners these people have. I try my best to be polite, but the worst ones can sometimes be the older generation who seem to think at their age they own the "road" and don't need to have manners, and when my kids were little I started this habit that after awhile, when I am polite enough to move and that person doesn't acknowledge it politely, I just say "you're welcome" as a reminder in a nice way, sometimes they say thank you but most times they just get rude beyond reason. I have even seen a mother with 3 kids push ram an elderly lady's cart to get her to move the cart w/o saying anything while the woman was looking at something. This same woman almost ran me down coming around the corner. I hate hearing a cart going really fast and knowing if I do not move I might get hurt!
-------------------------
Okay, as a Chickfila employee (and for anyone working in a restaurant with a drive thru,etc...
1. Put down the cell phone when ordering!!!!! We have had people during lunch rush say' Just a moment I have to finish this call, while in a drive thru with a line around the building of cars! or we are not sure if they are talking to us, or the person on cell phone.
2. when running front register: people talking on cell phone who hold up their one finger that looks like they are saying "one moment' when really they are saying they want a #1 Combo, and many people apolgize to the person on phone but not to us when they continue to have a conversation, and after giving them their order get upset because they meant to order one thing, and were so busy talking they ordered something different even after we try to ask them if their order is correct.
3. TURN OFF WINDSHEILD WIPERS AT WINDOW WHEN IT IS RAINING HARD!
It comes back into our faces and we can't see what we are doing.
4.Please,especially during holidays,etc... remember we are doing our best and being rude to us or those around you when the lunch or dinner or even breakfast rush is busy, is not going to help your situation or anyone else's.
I have seen people walk in front of someone who is in line because they are in a hurry to get back to work at their job across the parking lot(in our case here in Lex.Ky, Verizon employees, or pharmacy reps who are running late in the first place).
***************
***And last but not least; people seem to forget the holidays are a special time of year and no matter what is going on or how busy it gets, try to remember those people working in retail are their doing their best and sometimes we are there for long hours just like those who have been shopping for long hours etc... Try to be understanding, all of us have things going on in our lives, but taking it out on total strangers is not good.
*****
Well, enough for now,
Have a Blessed Holiday Season!,
Twin66, wife/mom to 2 teen boys(ages:18 and 14, one a freshman in college living at home, and one a freshman in high school).
