Shocked

We adopted a senior citizen for the holiday(we were given a list of things that she wanted, and all this particular lady wanted was baking supplies(flour, sugar, etc). Yesterday we went and bought tons of things, you name it we got it. We put it in a large wicker hamper type thing in the kitchen last night and this morning we came out and my ceiling was moving, apparently there were worms in the flour(a 25 Lb bag). I have never seen anything like it little white worms everywhere, Eeeeewwwwwww. DH took the whole load back and they replaced everything but YUCK, we had to scrub everything.

Ah well, my kitchen is clean now LOL

Shocked Eep!

OMGoodness that is horrible! I'd freak out.

But on the other side - that's a great thing you're doing. A lot of people forget about the seniors.

Merry Christmas!

Wink Icky!!!!

I bet that was horrible! Nothing grosses me out more than finding bugs in food! Makes me nervous with everything I eat for months afterwards.
Bradedit~ What a great idea adopting a senior citizen....who did you contact to do that? I know that there are tons of toy drives for kids and drives for families but I can see a need for more drives for senior citizens. I have never heard of one in this area. I would really like to do that. Contact me by email if you would like.
Kudos to you for opening up your heart for someone else over the holidays. I am sure she will really appreciate what you have done.

Big grin

I guess I'm sorta relieved that it happened at our house instead of hers(I would have been so embarassed!). I woke up at 4am to take some medicine and went to get some water and yuck that were just everywhere. My house smells like bleach now.

We did this through my daughter school, in the past the kids bought grab-bag type presents for one another and truthfully with all the other things they get, these presents got lost in the pile and usually the parents paid and the child gave. The older kids(6th grade) decided that they wanted to help others instead for the past month the kids have had to do "chores" to earn the money for the gifts. Some helped out by holding a babysitting group so parents could go Christmas shopping, some shoveled walks, helped seniors by carrying grocery bags etc. Family and friends could sponsor the kids so if parents didn't have the cash others helped the kids. If the whole family wanted to help out we could and it was so much fun, REALLY! My daughter earned $117 doing this so we got alot of stuff(we rounded it up to $150).

I hope that they do it next year, it was wonderful, my daughter felt so important knowing that she "earned" the money. I don't know if it would have been so much fun if it hadn't been done as a group project though(at least for the kids).
