| Re: Daddy is in the hospital! Thank you all, that means a lot to me. I feel just awful that I can't be there right now. They had to delay the surgery, he was on blood thinners, so they need to take him off of them for a few days before they could operate. They wanted to keep him in the hospital though, in case of any problems or complications, and they said they are definitely doing the surgery tomorrow. (Wednesday) If all goes well, they can send him home in the evening. So far, he complained that he had nothing to do, as his TV wasn't on, he didn't keep any money there at the hospital, so Andy and I took care of that for him, he will have it on now as long as he is in there, then he can just tell them when he is leaving to turn it off. Today, they made the mistake of trying to do an MRI, he didn't do much better with that little tub than I did, he said they put him in, and he had to tell them to take him out NOW! So they are devising a different way to do the test they need. He is very upset, his friend told him that his little dog won't eat because he isn't there, he just keeps roaming around and looking for dad. |

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital! Oh Verwon I am so sorry your dad is not feeling well.... Those MRI machines are terrible...when mom used to have to get the CAT scans and MRI's when she had cancer they would have to sedate her with valium before they could put her in the machines...I couldnt do it either... I hope your dad gets home real soon ...His doggie will be so glad to see him. I know this sounds odd but my dh did this last time I was out of town: He put the speaker phone on so I could take a bit to my dog and he would put the phone close to her so she could here me. He did this because after I went on my trip she would not eat, come out of her blankets , play nothing and he was getting so worried about her....Good thing I wasnt gone for more than 5 days..lol But he said after I would talk to her she would get up and finally play with the other dog or try to get the phone lol ![]() Lots of hugs to you and your dad and many good prayers to you and your family ![]()

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital!----Updated Info! Those medicines which make blood thinner can be somethimes dangerouse. My granfather died bleeding blood in his brain. The doctors propably ordered him too much that blood thinnering medicine, since the bleeding occured almolst immediately after switching to the stronger medicine. Don't get me wrong... I am not angry to anyone. It just was his time to go *sniff*. We all have our own limited amount of time. There is time to live, time to die, time to be happy, time to be sad. Nothing in this world is eternal. Life is a beautifle gift given by god, and we should be gratefull about it. I wish your father all the best. God will definitely look after him.

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital!----Updated Info! My dad has used very, very few meds of any type in his life, not even Tylenol, he would rather use natural vitamins and supplements, so he is on a very low dose of a very safe and reliable med. As to the TV question, yes they do charge by the day. My dad had my brother take his wallet and leave it with a trusted friend, so she would have his medicare info and etc. if it was needed in an emergency, and he hadn't kept any money at the hospital. He was able to have the $2 a day for the phone billed to his home phone bill, but they would not do that with the television, so we took care of that for him while he was in there. I happened to have enough money left on one of my debit cards to cover it for him so he at least had something to alleviate the boredom while he was in there. He was thrilled to death that we thought to do that for him. When he said he didn't have his TV on and no money with him to get it on, and I knew he couldn't really afford the $4 a day anyway, and my brother is way to cheap and selfish to bother with such a thing, I just looked at Andy and he said, go call them. LOL! So I called the nurse's station and they transferred me to someone who could help, as long as you are related to the patient, they will take your card right over the phone for it. So when I called my dad back, he was so touched, I thought he was going to cry for a minute. It meant more to him than any get well card or flowers ever could. I know he is not used to just sitting around, not being allowed out of bed to get any fresh air or exercise, nothing to read or do for days in a row. Even though he is retired and 77 now, he is still very active and does more work and lifts more in a day than a man half his age or less. I knew he needed something to provide some distraction while he was stuck in there. Last edited by verwon; 09-19-2006 at 03:55 PM. |

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital!----Updated Info! Wow, I have never heard of charging to watch tv. I guess they are not making enough money charging $20 for a Q-tip or a band-aid. Hosp. do not want you bringing money but then they want you to have some to pay for extras. I remember when I had my youngest children they wanted me to pay for the hosp. pictures while I was there. I guess usually they mail them to you but with a c-section you are still there to get them. Both times I had forgotten and had to call dh for my credit card number. The worst thing for my mom when she was in the hosp. with lung cancer was that they did not get the channel that Jeopardy was on. On that channel they hosp. information. Of all the places to put it they had to put it on the Jeopardy channel. |

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital!----Updated Info! Hi Ver and everyone, God Bless you and your Dad. He'll be fine, he may be 77, but it sounds like he's in good health and very strong. Of course he and you will be in our prayers throughout, and it wouldn't be YOU if you didn't worry so. I'm the same way w/scans - it's Get me OUT now! (or don't put me in!) Many people are on blood thinners and have surgery, his Dr's as I'm sure you already know just want him off of them for a little while prior to surgery. And for a little while afterwards usually as well - that's standard. Hugs to your Dad and you and your family, Ver, TRY to get some rest, k? Hugs to all, Marilyn PS: I don't know of any hospitals that "don't" charge for TVs!

| Re: Daddy is in the hospital!----Updated Info! Thanks. Every hospital I have been in has always charged for the TV, but not local phone service, you only had to pay for long distance calls, but the one he was in also charged for the phone, $2 a day, just to have the phone on in your room, even if you didn't call out or make any long distance calls at all. When I was in labor with our son, the hospital I was in was very modern and progressive. They provided all television and phone calls totally free to the expectant parents and their friends, and families. We didn't have to pay for anything, they even provided food and drink to the father to be, at no charge. They do charge for TV in all the other units, though. Their rate is $3 a day. When I was in there, my labor, birthing, and regular hospital room were all the same room. They just rearranged as needed if they had to fit in extra equipment or something, you didn't have to go to the OR or anywhere else, unless you had to have a C-Section. They even had these neat portable cot things so Andy could stay with me, it looked like a chair, but then folded out at night so he could stay there with me and sleep beside me. |
