Where do you get your taxes done?

Have you filed your taxes? We are still waiting for the paperwork. Do you do it online, or buy software, or just do it yourself? I guess there is efile, turbo tax, tax act, and a few others. Any recommendations?

I used TaxAct.com last year and this year. Very easy and free! It prompts you for your deductions (mortgage interest, property taxes, etc.) and automatically gives you any credits you are eligible for. It sure beats paying Jackson Hewitt almost $200 like we used to do.

This will be my last time filing as "Married Filing Jointly", for the next 3 years I'll be a "Qualifying Widow" which is the same tax break as married.

We have used TaxCut for the past 4 years and it's great! Tax preparers charge way too much for the same questions the software asks you! If you don't have anything out of the ordinary like a business, they're simple. I would give one of those a try if I were someone trying to figure out what to do. I even used it last year with my Avon business included and it wasn't hard to do.

I got my tax stuff in the mail a couple of days ago, now I have to get motivated. So do you only get money back when you have kids? After the kids are grown do you normally break even, or do you owe?

We usually file via H&R Block, this time we're using TurboTax Deluxe 2005.

First time we used TurboTax. TurboTax just sent us this via email:

"We expect to receive your IRS refund on 02/17/2006."

I just keep my books up to date and then just give it to an accountant so they can mess around with it and do it for me. This is more costly than what it would be if I had done it myself, but it saves me alot of time.
