Red face Will you have summer visitors?

I am soooo tired. We had some cousins of DH's come for two days. We haven't seen them for maybe 10 years, so it was really nice to catch up with our lives and to spend time with them. I tend to go overboard, though. While DH is entertaining, I feel like I have to cater to everyone hand and foot. I know that makes some people uncomfortable, but I can't help it. I feel like it's their vacation, and they should be 'treated'. Even cooking was stressful, not only because I worry that things won't turn out right and all on time ... but one of the cousins is a cook ... and so I was worried about everything from the way I prepared things ... to if I was spotlessly clean in preparation, etc. So, they left this morning, and I've spent the last few hours cleaning the bedrooms and bathrooms and washing the towels and sheets. I'm about done ... and I'm about done in! DH loves to entertain, but it is so much work. (BTW, he hurt his back yesterday, so he is sleeping now, but can hardly walk around, so that added to the turmoil and care.)

I know I need to loosen up a lot that way and relax more, but it's not how I was raised, and I guess I feel like I'm showing how much I care about them if I'm going all out.

So, what about you? Do you give your all? Or do you have a really laid back attitude about it?

Re: Will you have summer visitors?

At least it is over Yorkie. My next batch of company is coming Aug. 12. My dh's sister, niece and grand-nephew (age 18 or so I think) I am pretty laid back about it, but I have a different problem.... I cannot stand sitting and listening to my sister-in-laws endless talking. Last time she was here, I was on the verge of insanity by the time she left. I honestly hope I am scheduled to work that week-end she is coming. It will give me a break...LOL

Re: Will you have summer visitors?

The cousin's wife (all of them, really) is very helpful, but VERY talkative, and because I didn't want her to work on her very much-needed vacation, she talked a lot while I was trying to cook, making it hard to concentrate on one or the other ... increasing my stress. I know this is self-imposed, and I know I need to not care so much ... but I guess it'll take time for me to get there .

Re: Will you have summer visitors?

My brother is coming to visit for his class reunion, but he'll only spend one day with me. Last year I cooked and tried to make everything extra-special, but now I think it's time for me to be taken out to dinner. I plan on having a few friends in during the day for hors d'oeuvres and drinks and that will be enough for me.
He'll visit with Mother at the nursing home and then drive north where his son lives.

Last year my nephew came with his wife, two kids, and her mother. Again I cooked and made special things and never even received a thank-you, so this year I don't even think I'll be home. When I want guests I'll invite them! I used to get all worked up and panic-stricken, but now I just take things as they come.

Re: Will you have summer visitors?

We've had some-one was short notice which would normally stress me out but since we have our house listed I have been keeping up on my house work so that helped. I don't like coming up with meal ideas. I try to keep it simple to minimize the stress.

Re: Will you have summer visitors?

This summer I feel like I'm either visiting or being visited every weekend! It gets to be so crazed!!

I do love seeing my friends and family though, so I enjoy it (even when I end up exhausted!)
