Angry Squirrels eating plant!

My beautiful hibiscus is sitting outside my sliding door in a large pot, and lately I have caught squirrels taking off the flowers and new buds. I chase them away and they return even though I have put aluminum foil around the pot and have a wind spinner in it. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them?

I'd like to shoot them, but it's against the law.

Re: Squirrels eating plant!

Mine is in a pot and there's no garden. It doesn't have to be organic either because I would like them to meet their maker.

Re: Squirrels eating plant!

How about some cayenne pepper in and around the pots maybe it would keep them away. I have heard that animals dont like the smell of it.

lol I am sorry Daiquiri. I read your title as Squirrel eating plant- meaning the plant eats squirrels!

Maybe I should get one that does.

The cayenne pepper sounds like a good idea and it's simple enough to try. Thanks Debbie.

Re: Squirrels eating plant!

At Lowes and Home depot they sell a few products which work pretty well from what I hear. It works for Cats, Moles, Squirrels, rabbits and more.
I can not think of the name off hand but it is in the insect repellant section by the sensor like things ya plug in the wall

Here we have many many squirrels running around but they never mess with our plants, But then if they did dh would just have them for supper

Re: Squirrels eating plant!

I have heard that lime sprinkled around keeps cats out (who like to use the garden as a kitty box)

Thanks Toby Lee. Something is coming out at night to eat my tomatoes. It happened for the 2nd time this morning, when I discovered another beautiful, ripe tomato with a chunk nibbled out of it...grrr. Maybe it's the squirrel I occasionally see during the daytime. I'll try the blood meal and hope it works.
