He did come across as very arrogant and rude. I saw the video of it on msnbc.com today.

Seems I read recently that he fired a longtime agent so maybe without that advice to constantly promote a carefully scripted image he's let some of his true personality come out. With the constant TV reports showing Tom Cruise, I noticed something odd about his famous toothy smile. It's the exact same smile whether he's posing for a picture with a complete stranger (fan) as it is when he's on the red carpet with Katie. Almost like he's wearing a mask. |

Actress Brooke Shields has blasted back at Tom Cruise after he criticised her for taking antidepressants to cope with post-natal depression. Shields branded Cruise’s comments a “disservice to women everywhere” in an editorial in today’s New York Times. She said if any good can come from the actor’s “ridiculous rant” it would give much needed attention to a serious condition. Cruise sparked controversy last month when he criticised Shields for her drug use, calling her irresponsible and claiming she could have taken vitamins to cure her depression. He launched into another passionate rant about the effects of psychiatry and prescription drugs when asked about his comments during an interview on US television earlier this week. “I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Mr Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression,” Shields wrote. The actress, currently starring on the London stage in Chicago, said she had considered swallowing a bottle of pills or jumping out the window following the birth of her daughter, Rowan Francis, in 2003. A doctor later attributed her feelings to a plunge in her oestrogen and progesterone levels and prescribed the antidepressant Paxil. “To suggest that I was wrong to take drugs to deal with my depression, and that instead I should have taken vitamins and exercised shows an utter lack of understanding about postpartum depression and childbirth in general,” she said. Cruise claimed there was no such thing as a chemical imbalance that needed to be corrected with drugs. “You don’t know the history of psychiatry, I do,” the Scientologist told NBC host Matt Lauer. Wow, what a jerk! |

sunlover5, I totally agree! 1stgradeteacher, its hard to understand why he is being so offensive about this, isn't it. I feel sorry for the women who won't get help because of him. Everyone I know who has used anti-depressants has only done so after a lot of soul searching, and battling guilt. Its just too bad.

How many people will be told that they do not need medication by people who listen to this guy and then try to go without it. Many people I know are boycotting War of the Worlds because they care about sending the message of support to those who take medications for mental health. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] By the way serum Serotonin levels can be sent to the lab to se if there is a chemical imbalance of serotonin(commomn in depression.Nutrition does play a part in mental health but a vitamin supplament only helps if it is on you need. Since I do not see a Phd or Md behind mister Cruise's name is he not dispensing medical advice without a license to do so. I got rid of all the movies we had in our collection with mister Cruise in them and will not buy anything else he is a part of till he publically supports this with mental illness by supporting their treatment. My brother killed himself years ago because someone told him that nobody needed to take antidepessants that they just needed to eat healthy and excerise more. So this is a very touchy subject to me and my family. A dear friend of mine who passed away years ago of cancer told me that everyone was willing to help her with her fight to stay alive but she knew many who fought just as hard that people shunned just becuase their disease was mental.I do not know how I would have gotten through my brothers death without her. She was the type that truely cared about everyone. If you where having a bad day for even a minor reason she would send an e-card or note if she found out. I can hear what she would have said in my mind about mister Cruise. She would have said she was sending some more information and backed with his churches beliefs along with where his vitamins come from.Showing the same common science behind both as well as the deaths caused by overdoses of vitamins. |
