Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

I was wondering about this the other day when I was shopping with my DD.
Apparently I have no idea what is "in" anymore when it comes to shoes.
(When I was a kid, you were just glad to have shoes..lol)

She is in Junior High.
Etnies shoes are what are the most wanted at her school now, DC is also popular, Vans are OK but were more "in" last year, Converse were last year, K Swiss is OK, Schechers so-so, and Doc Martens unheard of.

I had never heard of Etnies before. I got a real education in fashion....even learned what type of earrings are "in"......lol

Re: Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

So . . . what earrings are "in"? lol

Of course I have no clue because: (1) I have boys, and (2) They're 2 and 5.

What I did find interesting is the hairstyles of younger teen boys. The other day I was sitting in a parking lot and 5 or 6 boys walked by - I'm guessing they were around 13 years old. They all had longer hair. Not long in the back - but all-over long. It reminded me of David Cassidy - or like "Buddy" from charles in Charge. (but when he was in 8 is enough - if you remember that show) lol (A kind of long curly moppy hairdo).

I guess hairstyles come back around! (Please God, don't bring back the mullet).

Wow. I've never heard of Etnies so I looked them up. They're really nothing interesting. lol Really plain looking. There were 6 pages of styles, yet they all looked the same to me. A $60 shoe in a $12.99 style.

Re: Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

I'm lucky that my 8 and 9 year old really don't care what kind of shoe they wear. The only problem is that my 8 year old daughter is almost out of kids shoes so the next size up she will not be able to find cute ones that she likes with pictures of Hello Kitty, Barbie etc. My 18 year old never had to have a name brand shoe or clothes so I was lucky with him too. Oh and he is the only one at his school with a mullet. He also has a pierced ear, eyebrow, and below his lip. I told him it would be easier to just wear shirts that say LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME. It would mean less holes in your face. LOL

Re: Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

my boys will pretty much wear whatever i buy for them. they are not to piky unless they are at the store themselves then lookout takes them forever. but they are still young enough for mom to say that is was to expensive and get by with it. LOL
I picked out my oldest ds last pair of shoes.......me 32 yrs old tried on mens 7 shoes and brought them home and they fit my 7 yr old with enough room to move in them. He was disapointed when he outgrew the lights in shoes. I said son mommy can't help it men don't want the lights like kids do. LOL poor guy

Re: Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

I know in some crowds the DC's and Etnies are popular (mainly older like 7+) but I have a 6 yr old and he likes skechers. He has a nice pair of new balance's now and he is happy with them. My 2 yr old wears skechers also. I wear nothing but flip flops and reefs and teva's are good for me.

According to my 13 yr old Junior Higher, the chandeliers, big silver hoops or heart shapes, and anything long.
There is so much pressure in junior high about fashion....so much so that her school is considering uniforms for next year.

My 10 1/2 year old daughter is in her tomboy phase. No pink or jewelry...and loves boys pants or shorts. Won't let me do anything with her hair either, loves to wear a baseball cap. I usually buy her Nikes or Reeboks, simply because she has a VERY narrow foot.

As far as me, give me a pair of New Balance or Reeboks and I'm set for a long time!
I would love a pair of Merrell sandels (so comfy), but way to expensive,.

Re: Curious..what shoes are popular w/kids in your area?

I see more kids wearing Nike Shox on campus than anything! They are nice shoes for sure, but too expensive for my liking. I don't really like most shoes, except for just basic Adidas or Nikes. Just don't buy shoes online -- I did once and it was the biggest waste of money. They were much different than I expected.

I noticed the earrings were getting long again. I think that was in when I was in Elementary and early Jr. High (so late 80's.) I should find all my old jewlry for my garage sale in a few weeks - they're probably popular again! lol

For sandals - when I was visiting my birthfamily in San Diego they told me I had to buy some Reef brand sandals. I guess that's what everyone wears on SD. I always hated thong sandals because they felt horrible. But I tried some Reef ones and LOVE them. (They're the "Weave" style). Really comfy! I'm going to get another pair because I love them so much. (And they probably change styles all the time, so I'm worried they won't make them soon.)
