Big grin Mouse, hey buddy ole pal...

Hows the hubby/ kids? ok, cool...anyhoo..lol
Ok, engine oil is basic. I know to keep it topped off. My car leaks about 1/2 quart a week but I always top it off.
Here is my ?...I am driving to Arizona w/King Guiness soon. I have gotten a LOT of stuff fixed on my car lately, brakes, battery, cooling sys, etc. But I don't think its worth it to have the engine steam cleaned and inspected. A trusted mechanic said the gasket itself isn't bad, just keep topping off. My Plym Neon takes 5W30.
the ? is, should I add some kind of thick STP (CD-W, Maguire, etc) oil additive to thicken up the oil so it doesn't leak/burn as much on the way down? or is it better to keep adding the regular oil? Whenever I take road trips, I hawk the air pressure, dipstick, etc anyway.
Thanks

Ok...now I am having a "duh" moment..is you oil BURNING off or is it actually leaking?!?! Personally (just my opinion)...I'd stick w/ the 30 weight oil since it's a small engine. Hubby wanted me to add that if you are losing oil (not BURNING) that you can buy some additive that helps with leaks.

I thinks its slightly leaking, not burning. Did hubby mention specific brands? like STP. Thanks!

Re: Mouse, hey buddy ole pal...

Word of warning. Do not use additives to top off your oil. Soon you will be running additives and not oil. I changed a lady's oil and it came out like honey. She had added STP everytime she was low on oil. Additives are best added with each oil change.

Re: Mouse, hey buddy ole pal...

Blue...you can add the additive, but do it during an oil change..like telos said..just don't add it to KEEP topping it off is all. Kenny didn't say any particluar brand when we talked about it earlier.
