My DH wants to move near Little Rock, AR...anybody live there?

My DH is at training in AR right now and he called me out of the blue yesterday and said he has an interview this afternoon to move down there and be an instructor at the recruiter school. We would be down there for 3 years and living in housing at Little Rock AFB. Can anyone tell me about the area? I'll be looking for a teaching job around there, too. I sure hope the schools are hiring. If this all happens, I'm going to have to get the house ready to sell quickly. OMG!

I've never been there so I can't help, but I hope whatever you decide works out for your family. At least you're done with school will leave with an outstanding reference if you have to job-hunt

Little Rock is ok to big for my taste my sister lived there for about 15 years then moved to a very small town just outside of Little Rock.

My best friend has lived there for a few years she loves it... But I like small town living ...after living in Houston till I was 18 I like the rural country life best

I live in North Arkansas--about 2 1/2 hours north of LR. My daughter just moved from there. Her husband was stationed at LRAFB. If you have any questions, bet I can find out from him. It is a large city and I'm def a small town girl. But there are lots of small towns around LR. But shopping and places to eat are to die for down there. And just think, you can visit Bill Clinton's library!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I'm so excited, LOL. We would be living at LRAFB and from what I can tell, the closest town is Jacksonville, which looks nice. I'm a small town girl, too, but it's nice to live by a big city when you need stuff, right? That's why we like where we are right now...right between Chicago and Milwaukee but still in a small town.

I am going to try to sell our house myself...maybe see what happens for a month or so, and then if I don't get any bites we can call a realtor. There are a few houses for sale in my neighborhood right now so it's hard to tell.

Yes, Jacksonville is the closest town to the base. Actually, the base is in Jacksonville. My dh was in the service in the late 70's and stationed at LRAFB. Of coarse it has grown so much over the coarse of 25 years. Even when we lived there, I never went to LR to shop and now they have so much more in Jacksonville. But the whole area has grown so much. The only thing you'll have to worry about is how "funny" we talk down here(LOL)

Now he's decided he doesn't want to move after all (and after I put the house up for sale). He has a good reason though, he wants me to be able to establish a career with some longevity...isn't that sweet??? LOL, he's driving me nuts!

Oh my word, up and down! He is so sweet, you are a lucky gal Kristen! Last year my hubby wanted to move, so we put the house up for sale, and started looking. I was pretty bummed out, but tried to have a good attitude. I couldn't believe it, but I did find another house I loved, but our bid was not accepted. Houses were selling super fast, so we had this panic, what happens if we sell ours and can't get into a place we like? We had a couple of people interested in ours, but after only 5 weeks on the market dh decides he doesn't want to move after all. So we took it off the market, and now I was upset that we Weren't moving! LOL Then for 2 more months we had people calling us, trying to convince us to accept their offer on our home. I guess in the long run it might have been a good decision for us to stay. Our new house payment was going to be quite a jump, and things would have been really really tight around here. As if they aren't already!!

Oh Man I was thinking my Weight watcher buddy was going to be living two and half three hours from me I go to Hot Springs and a lot of other places down around close to Little Rock I am going to get to meet her darn it.

Speaking of that...with all that stress I couldn't stop shoving food in my mouth and I gained 2.6 this week.

But I am back on the WW wagon! I even got the journal this week (our leader hands it out to those who need an extra incentive...you list everything and the next person gets it and can see what you do to get ideas, etc.) I literally had my hand in the cookie jar and I stopped myself and said...what are you doing???? LOL

I do still want to visit down there, though. Where I really want to go is Crater of Diamonds state park and dig up a big one!!

Don't stress about the gain I have gained some too with all of the migraines I have been having I just have not been doing my points as well as I should. Some days I have not been eating at all because I have just been laying in the bed but the next day I eat really well. But I decided I would not stress about it when I get my health straightened out I would get right back on track. My doctor has put me on Topamax it seems to be helping more then any thing I have taken I don't take it when I feel one coming on I take it every day.
