Mother's Day - May 8th

Mother's Day is coming up soon...a week from Sunday! It really snuck up on me this year. I still need to buy cards for my mom and MIL, and I know DH hasn't taken the kids shopping for me yet. All I really want is just a nice day spent with my DH & kids. We usually have my mom & MIL over for brunch the Saturday prior.

What are your plans?

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

My 5 year old is so excited because I'm going to his school for a "Mother's Day Tea." Beyond that, every day around our house is Mother's Day....I'm pretty spoiled.

I usually call my mom's friend the florist and have a hanging basket sent. They make these ginormous ones for $20....they are unbelievable! My mom sent me a photo last year and I almost died!

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

Since my Mom just moved to a nursing home there will be no going out or having her at my house. The space is limited and she still has the Easter plant I gave her, so the best I can do is visit and spend some time with her. Things certainly change in a year, but I try to do all I can for her because at least she's still with me.

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

This is my first year without my mom. So there will be no flowers, no prettys, no I Love You's. Gonna be a hard day without her.
But as for my mil she will get pretty basket of flowers and a huge hug and I Love You's.
For me from my boys and dh, will be breakfast made by them a table set with flowers on it that they picked from the yard, pretty homemade cards from them and lots of hugs and kisses. I lay in bed and pretend to be asleep while they scurry around the house gettin everything ready and trying to be quiet. LOL They will fix scrambled eggs, toast and bacon. Mommy has to have a glass of milk because ds says mommy needs it for her bones. LOL Its a very precious time for me. I have had the same breakfast everyday since I became a mom 7 years ago. Except I used to get it in bed until my oldest said mommy had to sit at the table so she can have her milk. LOL So much fun.

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

Well no major plans. We will call MIL. My mom will get a small gift and probably take her out to eat. DH is taking me out for supper just the 2 of us. Son has his gift for me picked out. I don't know what it is yet. However he always does great.

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

For the last couple of years my 8 and 9 year old bring me breakfast in bed. It is usually a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cookies, carrots, and a glass of milk. They also like to go shopping all by themselves so I take them to the 99 Cent store. It's a little store so I can stand by the door and they can go shop. They usually each pick out 3 or 4 things each for me. They get so excited about the presents that they usually give me a couple of them before what ever holiday they bought them for. LOL

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

I hate Mother's Day now. This is my second year without my mom, and first without my brother, also the first year with my new stepmother. I like her, but at the risk of sounding like a spoiled little kid, my father seems way too happy with her. I'm happy for him, I just wish that he wouldn't make it seem like losing my mother was no big feal to him. Anyway, I hope my family just ignores the day altogether, no cards, gifts, "happy mother's day", dinner, or anything else.

You don't sound spoiled..........To me there is only one mom and no body can take her place. This is my first mothers day without mom. I don't have a step mom but I have a step dad.
Don't feel bad for being upset that your dad acts to happy, I'm sure on the inside he misses her too. Maybe this is just his way of dealing with it. Many hugs for you, I know you need them.

I'm still goin to take my mommy flowers, she always loved live ones.

Thanks so much for saying that, and I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. Holidays are hard after losing a loved one, and I don't think they ever really get any easier. I'm not taking my mother flowers, I never go to the cemetry, I just can't deal with it, especially with my brother, who died last July at age 29, being burried right across from Mom. Many hugs to you too!

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

My father is still battling cancer so I'm not sure we'll even go out to dinner with my Mom this year. If we do it will be Saturday. I've got BIG plans for Sunday. This will be my first Mother's day spent AWAY from the kids! I won tickets to go see "Live with Regis and Kelly" at Disneyland. I'm going with three friends! It will be fun to go to D-land without the kids. I always have at least one with me whenever I go. I think we will get access to the rest of the park for the rest of the day after the show taping is done so we will have a blast! DH and the kids will be at his brother's house celebrating with his mom so they will have fun too.Happy (early) Mother's Day to my fellow Moms!

Re: Mother's Day - May 8th

My Mom surprised me today when she said she got a permanent (at the nursing home). That's a good sign which tells me she's adapting to living there and joining in the programs and meeting new friends. It has been bothering me that she would hate it and I would feel responsible for her move. I'll be visiting her with her favorite candy and a gift of some sort--not much to give at this stage. I'm just glad to have her still with me because she will be 95 on June 5.

It's wonderful news that she's adjusting to her new surroundings. You are fortunate to be able to spend Mother's Day together
