Question What kind of American English Do You Speak?

Found this fun quiz online: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

I'm 70% General American English, 15% Yankee, and the rest of me is Dixie and Midwestern.

Brings back the soda vs. pop debates that I've had over the years!

Does anyone know where in the U.S. they use the phrase "kitty corner" to decribe something diagonal from somewhere else???

Re: What kind of American English Do You Speak?

Well there were a few more that I could have used "both" as an option....like for "route". Route (rhymes w/ out) when talking of a State Route (highway) and it rhymes with boot when I mean I someone is on their way..like the police are in route.

Re: What kind of American English Do You Speak?

I say kitty corner but I don't think it is a southern CA thing. I think it's because my mom used to say it and probably her mom too. So maybe it's a North Dakota thing. There were a couple things I had never heard of but I didn't have a choice of picking neither.

75 General American English
15 Upper Midwestern
10 Yankee

We were laughing about this not long ago.
I think by the time I get done moving all over, nobody will be able to tell where I'm from.

(I only got 5% Midwestern when that is where I'm "really" from???)
