What sort of Home Improvements have you done?

We have put new cupboard doors on, and done some taping and texturing of the walls. We hired to have someone build us a garage. Oh we built a covered deck by ourselves. Other than that just lots of painting!

Re: What sort of Home Improvements have you done?

Have done tons of stuff, bigger projects I hire people. In 2000 had most of the house recarpeted, 2001 put laminate flooring in the family room, 2002 I had all new windows put in, 2004 the upstairs bathroom was totally redone. Right now the guys are out there putting up soffit and facia and all new gutters and downspouts, I want the exterior of my home to never have to be painted. This summer I hope to repaint the living room, dining room and stairwell. Also hope to get the garage interior done, the ceiling falling down really isn't attractive. But that is going to be a huge pain in the butt, will have to get one of those PODS storage units to put all the stuff in the garage so it will be easier to work in and we won't be tripping over anything. HAHA!!

Re: What sort of Home Improvements have you done?

Every year, I seem to take a room as a project. The first year was the porch, which I painted and completely refurnished (with discarded wicker furniture, which I repaired and painted white). I made lots of cute cushions and throw pillows, so it looks pretty cute! I also put up 20 ft. of floor-length blinds, so that it is semi-enclosed, making it (and the house) cool and shady.

I recently redid my 8 yr. old son's room, painting, building 2 small tables and a bookshelf, and reuphostering a large, comfortable arm chair (my first upholstery effort). I got him a great, black metal bunk bed ($50 at a garage sale!), which I've customized so that he has lots of head room on the bottom, and the top is kind of a clubhouse.

I'm always building little customized shelves and nooks into my house, for sewing, cookbooks, our computer, etc. I have built a number of tables (a console table for behind the couch, a pretty white picnic table for our porch, etc.), as well as made a coffee table of driftwood covered with a large, free-form piece of safety glass. (Lots of people think it's really expensive, not realizing that the costlies part was the glass.)

I love to decorate, but don't have much money, so necessity is the mother of invention! And now our little house is such a custom-fit for us, that even if I won the lottery, I don't think I'd move out. (Wow, sorry this is so long!)

Re: What sort of Home Improvements have you done?

We just redid our master bathroom - had the tub refinished (stunk for a few days but was worth it!), painted the walls, took off some of the tile trim and replaced the floor (with a little help from a friend with connections to a flooring company, got it free!). Got a new vanity & a new potty... OMG it is so much better than the awful yellow that was in there before! The downstairs bathroom is next... it's only a half bath so we are going to start simple and replace the potty...
