I got this in an email, but it hits very close to home for me. In 2000 my husband had a brain aneurysim, his only symptom was vomiting. He could converse with me quite well and he had no trouble walking. But I had never heard of these simple questions to ask.RECOGNIZING A STROKE-- A TRUE STORY Susie is recouping at an incredible pace for someone who had a massive stroke all because Susie's friend Sheri saw Susie stumble. That is the key that isn't mentioned below. When she saw her stumble she then she asked Susie 3 questions. So simple--this literally saved Susie's life--Some Angel sent it to Suzie's friend and she did just what it said to do. Suzie failed all 3 of these questions so 911 was called immediately. Even though she had normal blood pressure readings and she could talk with some extent with the Paramedics as they took her to the hospital. Thanks to her friend who had the sense to remember and use these 3 steps and questions. READ AND LEARN!! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking these 3 simple questions: 1. Ask the individual to smile. 2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. 3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Associations annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this email sends it to 10 people you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I know my DH was very lucky, the neurosurgeon told me to my face that morning that I was looking at a dead man, at best one the would spend the rest of his life in a nursing home. He made me soo angry, how dare he give up on my DH, so I looked him in the eye and told him "Then we don't belong here in this hospital, you get me a heliovac or an ambulance we will head for the city." The doctor changed his tune and he had surgery the next morning. Aneurysms are very scary, my DS's her coworker was at the beach with his family, his wife looked over at him to ask for something and fell over, she was gone. She had no symptoms either. Sheriera I am so sorry about your family, life can certainly be very unfair. Did you sue the Doctors who misdiagnosed your mother?

Thank you both for your kind words. No, we couldn't get my father to sue the doctor, since my mother was still alive it was really up to them. He should lose his license, IMO. He also diagnosed me as infertile and I now have four kids. He has a very bad rep. with the nurses at the hospital also. I can't believe your DH's doctor could be so negative when he talked to you. Good for you for having faith that your DH would pull through! I've been told that aneurysms are hereditary. Since I have a history of migraines, I may talk to my dr. about getting scanned, just to be safe. I hope all continues to go well for your DH!
