Who's the avocado expert??

I remember a post a while back about avocados. Well...I bought 2 avocados from Wal-Mart to make guacamole. Got home and...ROCK HARD. I tricked cutting one but had to SAW it open and just threw it out. The other one I put in the fridge for a week, and still ROCK HARD. I swear the thing could have been considered a lethal weapon if I chucked it at someone's head.

So how do you pick a good avocado? Should I have just left it on the counter for a few days instead of the fridge?

Yes it would have ripened if you had.

The small end should be soft and then it's ripe. NEVER refrigerate them, just leave them out. If you have a produce man, ask for help if you want one to use the same day.

I always feel mine and want a little give to them. just a little squish. Leave them out to ripen.

I always put them in a brown bag, along with other things in the fridge. They ripen in a day or so. You should plant the seed. I sure love avacados but they are a real pain.

To make them ripen quicker:
Pluck that little black stem thingy on the end.

Don't forget to grow the pit!
I grew a ton of them (love Avodacos) and have been giving everyone a plant before I move off to remember me by. Okay, no wise cracks.
