Exclamation My coat had an alarm tag sewn into it, never knew!

Has this ever happened to anyone? Starting a few months ago, every time I was leaving the local Target, the alarm would go off and I'd have to go back in and show my receipt. It's very embarrassing and I couldn't figure out why it kept happening.

Yesterday one of the employees asked if I gotten a new pocketbook or coat? I told her that I had just started wearing my new leather coat in the fall. She told me to check all of the tags, sometimes there will be an alarm actually sewn into the coat. Lo and behold, I checked it and found a grey tag (sewn in next to the Dry Clean Only tag on the seam near the bottom) that said "Please remove after purchase" with a little picture of a pair of scissors! I cut it off and peeled it open, it was definitely some kind of security tag.

I had never heard of that. So, if you're setting off alarms, check your clothes!

Re: My coat had an alarm tag sewn into it, never knew!

I have had tags left in my garments before but never set off the alarm. Once, I bought a nice dress, and a bunch of clothes for the kids for school about an hour and a half from my house. Got home only to discover one of those tags in a shirt. I called the store, they asked me what brand it was. When I told her, she explained that they only put dye in some of them. Not that brand. I guess we all have to pay for the lack of honesty in others. ;(

That happened to me a few weeks ago, got all the way home from the mall and found a big plastic security tag on my daughter's jeans. I called the store and asked if I could just bash it with a hammer and she said "NO!" there was dye in the tag.

The tag in my coat looked like any other tag that would be sewn in, very inconspicuous.

I had the same experience last year at Macy's. I bought DD a pair of jeans and the tag was attached at the bottom of the leg. The cashier was new and forgot to remove the tag. I noticed it was attached after arriving home. It surprised me that I didn't set off the alarm! I would have been annoyed to have to go back to Macy's just to have it removed, but the jeans didn't fit DD so I had to go back anyway.

Wow!

That's never happened to me, but thanks for the warning. If I set off an alarm, I'll know what to do!

Re: My coat had an alarm tag sewn into it, never knew!

My friend bought some jeans for their daughter, and the tag was left on. They DID bash it with a hammer- Big mistake!!!

I am surprised about the security tag at the neck like that though. You would think the cashier would have told you about it.

Re: My coat had an alarm tag sewn into it, never knew!

The tag wasn't at the neck, it was about half way down the inside of the coat near the extra button and the other tag that says what the coat is made of. I guess that's why I never saw it, it's not big and plastic, it's a small cloth tag.

I just emailed Kohls and suggested that they instruct cashiers to point it out in the future!

I bought some clothes from jcrew.com a couple years ago (after-winter sale!) and the turtlenecks all had tattle-tags sewn into them!

That happended to me as well but ONLY at Target...I kept setting off the alarm EVERY time...they checked the receipt...off I go...

there was a wallet in there that had a security tag sewn into it...
