Lightbulb Do you have a living will?

I do have a living will, but after reading this article I think I will ammend it to include a durable power of attorney for health care.

This is also interesting a online registry which hospitals all across the US can use.

Re: Do you have a living will?

A couple of years ago I printed forms, added "this and that" of my own wishes, BUT I never had any sign to them as witness and I didn't have them notarized. DH read over them and I have to say he freaked out. It was like if we talked about it too much it was going to cause "it" to happen. I HAVE talked to my family (those who have any say in my life) about what I want and what I EXPECT, but...yes, I DO need to get things finalized. Having 2 children from a previous marriage adds a lot of "extras" to include.

Just dump me out on the side of the road, I'll be alright.

Red face Re: Do you have a living will?

Yes this issue is so very important to protect all of us from the Terry S. case now in the news! My hubby and I are Seniors and have had ours in place for several years.I uge all of you to give serious thought to your wishes being followed while you are able and to make sure ALL family have copies as well as your drs. Happy Easter to all and lets keep the Schiavo family and Terry in our prayers.

Re: Do you have a living will?

Just today I was offered copies for both my husband and myself. I plan on doing some research before I call it final. These forms are specific to the state we live in and I too want to get our power of attornies redone as well as an update to our traditional wills.

After my DH saw what his family did to his brother a few years ago, he told me this week he NEVER wants any of them to have a say.

Re: Do you have a living will?

During my working years I was a secretary dealing with wills and estates. There I learned the importance of having all of your affairs in order. My husband and I always kept ours up-to-date, and, fortunately for me, when he was in the hospital after his strokes I didn't have to deal with anything.

Now that he has passed away I did another living will, will, and power of attorney so no one in my family will have the burden.

Exclamation Re: Do you have a living will?

Yes my husband and I got living wills done when he first got sick several years ago! The drs.since then have told me to Always carry his will in my purse as he has diabetis, congestive heart failure and emphysema with possible Parkinsons developing.I do so and also carry my own as well. Our kids have copies and there are copies at home where friends know they are. This is a very important necessity for ALL of us to do to protect ourselves! We can learn from the Schivo case.

My MIL has the same problem with my FIL, and they're in their late 70s!! Though they've had wills drawn up a long time ago, he will NOT discuss anything related to health care directives, living wills, etc. My MIL is the opposite, as she doesn't want to burden her kids with any of these issues.
