Re: How much frugality is too much?

Crazytimes, I agree with you. I can't stand cheap toilet paper and I usually end up getting the Dial Complete antibac handsoap for less than 50cents a bottle after my coupons and the refill for around $1 and it is a 32 ounce bottle so for 128 ounces I only spend around $4. Why bother to water it down?

Re: How much frugality is too much?

My kids go through handsoap like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes I water it down a little for that reason. Also I don't like how thick and gloopy liquid handsoap can be, when its like that it takes forever to rinse off.

We use to buy the double roll of toilet paper, until I discovered that we went through it just about as fast as a regular roll. Why, I don't know.

For about a year or more I made my own laundry soap. That was super super cheap. But laundry soap has really come down in price, so it only costs about $6 bucks a month for two big containers of it.

I use to make my own maple syrup too, but I have gotten out of the habit of it the last year. But I did make my own jelly, and look forward to that in the summer. We go up to the mountains and pick tons of blackberries and make freezer jam. I wish that I knew were there were wild raspberries, that is the best!

Re: How much frugality is too much?

Liquid handsoap can be too thick and it takes forever to rinse off. Have you tried the soap foamers that Pamper Chef sells? Maybe the bargain stores have a cheaper version of them, I haven't checked.

Hubby asks why I use so much toilet paper. Cause I'm a woman and you are a man that's why. DUH. Then he won't buy Cottonelle cause it comes apart when using it so he buys the brand he wants. GAAAAAAA

One ply is horrible though and you end up using more so there is no savings.

Re: How much frugality is too much?

I have been using the Costco brand, and that seems to be working pretty good. Except one of the kids left the individual roll wrapping on the bathroom floor and I skittered across the floor on it like a drunk ballerina.

Re: How much frugality is too much?

Hmm, never thought about that. Guess I like my soap goopy, hehe. I don't go through it that quickly, but then again it justs my roomate and I.

I've always been a little curious about the double rolls....are they REALLY double rolls?? Hmm...

Re: How much frugality is too much?

The soap I have been buying is the Dial Complete, which foams.

You can reuse the containers and make any hand soap foam if you just thin it out with a little bit of water so it isn't so goopy. No need to order a foamer from Pampered Chef.

We always use Scott toilet paper but sometimes I like something softer and now they have a softer one they just put on the market. The rolls aren't as big but I like it a lot better.

mayfly,
I used to buy that brand (Kirkland?) at Costco, but I didn't like having to unwrap each roll. It seemed that the quality went down a couple of years ago, too, so since then I've used the other brand they carry (Quilted Northern). I don't think it's too much more than Kirkland and it's softer.

Has anyone ever tried Kirkland baby wipes?? My mom goes to costco and said they come in huge bulk packs. I'd consider them, but I hate to buy if they are cheap!

Go ahead and try them. If you're not satisfied, you can return them to Costco for a full refund. I hate the actual shopping experience of Costco, but love their refund policy.

Could it be Charmin? I thought all Costcos stocked the same basic merchandise. Costco rant: I hate it when I get used to buying something there and they discontinue it. I liked the plastic wrap they sold and suddenly they replaced it with a 2-pack of wrap in the large food service boxes . Also, it seems they totally rearrange the store every couple of months so you never know where to find things.

I shopped at Costco today. I double checked, and they only had Kirkland and Northern. Strangely enough, it was lunchtime and there were NO long lines at the checkout or the gas pumps today
