Anyone used a sofa slipcover before?

I have been looking on ebay for a slipcover for our sofa. I like the kind that has a skirted front, the more tailored look. Does anybody have some advice as to what to look for or stay away from--what fabrics would stay put better so I don't have to straighten it all the time? TIA

Re: Anyone used a sofa slipcover before?

Yes I use them all the time...I have 3 dogs and a white couch. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! Actually had the couch first. HA! I have found the one piece covers to be easier to deal with, I like the ones that are made of duck cloth, it is a thicker fabric. Just keep in mind that whatever design you choose that when you hold the fabric up if you can see through it, then if your couch has a design on it you will be able to see it through the cover. As to keeping them from not moving around...good luck. One trick I use is a small bath towel rolled into the crevice to anchor the fabric in. Some can be really pricey but I have been lucky and gotten mine fairly cheaply at stores like Ross, JCPenney etc. Right now for a change of pace I found a King size quilt that looks nice on my sofa.

Re: Anyone used a sofa slipcover before?

We had one once. It looked real nice, but I didn't like it. When I would get in my couch potato mood, it would get all twisted up and stuff. If I never sat on it, it would look fine. I guess it just depends on what butters your bread.

Re: Anyone used a sofa slipcover before?

Same thing here, with three kids climbing on the furniture, the slipcovers never stayed in place. Also, if your sofa is not the exact kind that they model it on, there are other issues. Mine had thinner arms and it never looked right. I ended up buying a sofa and chair that have fitted slipcovers (seperate cushion covers)that are made to fit...I can just take everything off and put it in the washer.

The covers I had were the basic Surefit ones, but Surefit has more options now, so check out their website. When I bought, I originally got them from Kohls and they were 1/2 price there. Then I found the same covers at Walmart for 1/2 the price of the discounted Kohls ones. It pays to shop around...they are pretty much all made by Surefit anyway.

Re: Anyone used a sofa slipcover before?

Thanks for the input. I bought one at a local store and think it will be okay. I will probably exchange it for a different color though. Thanks again!
