What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

I was just invited to a wedding at Lake Tahoe this June. It will be fairly simple with about 30 family and friends.

It got me thinking about my own wedding (20+ years ago ). It was not a big, lavish ceremony by any means (we paid for much of it ourselves). We had about 80 guests and we each had 3 bridesmaids/groomsmen, plus the maid of honor (my sister) and best man (my brother-in-law). We got married in a church and the reception was at a hotel ballroom. We had a quick 3-day honeymoon in San Diego before my DH had to start a new job.

Please share your stories!

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

We were married in a small Methodist church in Mulberry, Texas by a Baptist minister. We had two groomsmen and two bridesmaids (no best man or maid of honor.) Now Mulberry is out in the boonies near the Red River. The Methodist church and adjoining cemetary are what you would consider downtown. That is all.

We left there and drove back to Dallas and spent the night. The next morning we flew to Porta Vallarta, where we spent a week. It was a great time and Carlos & Charlie's become our favorite place to eat.

This is the view from the room where we stayed.

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

Well my husband and I eloped, and then went to a pizza place. We didn't tell anyone for a month that we were married! We were too scared to! lol On our 5 year anniversary we renewed our vows, and I had 2 gals with me, and my dh had his two younger brothers. It was very simple, with all of our friends and family, and very sweet. Its been almost 16 years now! That is what is tripping me out the most! It seemed like a blink ago, and then we were the young couple with the young children, and now I have kids getting ready to drive, and I am already 33 years old! My husband will be 35 this year! Is this what a mid-life crisis feels like?? ROFLLLL!

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

We got married in a little room at the courthouse with just my immediate family (celebrated our 20th last week). We did get to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon though.

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

My 1st wedding was a church wedding, we had 12 in our bridal party and a reception with 125 guest. We took 7 day honeymoon to Walt Disney World. Wedding #2 was a church wedding...I just had a maid of honor and my hubby had a best man and my 2 children were in the wedding party. We had a small reception, 50 guest, in a nice restaurant. We went on a honeymoon to Cable Beach in Nassau and we stay at Breezes for a week.

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

We had a big Michigan wedding...I think there were over 300 at my reception. It wasn't elaborate or anything. I think it was pretty average for our small town. The thing is, I have a large family and everybody came (which was great), plus my parents moved to that small town 30 years prior...dad was a schoolteacher, mom was a nurse. Let's just say they had a lot of friends. We each had 5 attendants and we honeymooned in....oh wait, we didn't get a honeymoon. We bought our house 6 months later. We did end up taking a trip to England about 3 years after, so I think of that as our honeymoon.

That was the last time I saw my grandma before she died, so it's a very sweet memory.

Two months later, we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon.

Love Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

Well, everyone here will hate me after this. My DH, who, starting in Vietnam at the age of 19 flew helicopters, was about 24 when I was 3. I asked him to marry me, he told me to "grow up a bit and he would" well, many years later, when I was more than grown, he flew a helicopter down to my parents house, walked out in a suit of armor and got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I have that "uniform" in my house in the front entrance room. Three children and 20 years later I can't explain what a wedding it was. We just went to a Court house and did it. Kids always wanted us to have wedding pictures but I will never forget that day. It meant more to me than any picture. I was so nervous that DH had to hold my hand through the ceremony. He has been the only man I have ever loved and I am just glad that he is off active duty again and I can have him home. Everyone should have a DH like this. And, by the way, he can't fit into that armor anymore.

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

Well, we didn't even have a real honeymoon. As we were leaving to go on a ferry,(hope I spelled that right) his Comanding officer called and DH had to go back to another mission. I think I should request a honeymoon, but dealing with MIL I guess many years from now, we will have one. Every day he is home is like a honeymoon to me.

Re: What was your wedding like and where did you honeymoon?

My wedding was in June so we decided to have an outdoor wedding, My FIL offered his yard so we rented a tent, table, chairs, etc...
we told everyone to dress casual and comfortable, it was like a Big cookout. It was the perfect wedding. Everyone commented on it saying it was the best wedding they had been too, it was just so laid back and fun.
Unfortunately we honeymooned in the Poconos at the Summit Resort....Lord I wouldn't go there again if you paid me to!

Sounds like a great wedding...sorry about the honeymoon, though. What was the problem with the Poconos?
