Baffled Allergy question

Is anyone allergic to Advil?

Every time I have to take ibuprofen for inflammation and pain I have a problem with my feet and ankles swelling. It's the only thing that helps, but then I have trouble getting my shoes to fit.

Do you have that problem, and what have you found that works?

Re: Allergy question

really? Wow! Have you ever talked to a doctor about it? I never knew that Ibuprofin could cause swelling.

Re: Allergy question

Sounds more like it may be messing with your blood pressure or something rather than an allergy. When the body swells for an allergy, other than direct exposure like an insect bite, the edema doesn't usually stay localized like that.

If I were you, I would stop taking it until I had talked to a doc about it. If it is your blood pressure you need to get a handle on it now and if it isn't then they can check to see what else it may be. But it really doesn't sound good and isn't something you should just ignore.

Re: Allergy question

There's a lot of information about this on the internet. All NSAIDS (motrin, advil, vioxx, celebrex, etc) can cause water retention.

This drug can cause water retention. It should be used with caution if you have high blood pressure or poor heart function.

Research it by using these keywords: ibuprofen causes water retention

Re: Allergy question

Thanks for the feedback. I know Motrin always bothered me, but Advil worked until now. My BP is normal so I didn't worry about that, but the information is very enlightening. I guess it's time for a little checkup.

Re: Allergy question

I thought motrin and advil were the same essential meds? What makes them different? I don't even know what Aleve is-lol Usually I buy generic ibuprofen.
