AVOID THESE SITES!!!!

I'm leaving out/off the "www" and ".com" so the links won't be clickable..GOSH, I see no reason to even go to these sites if you don't have to...SO DON'T! LOL!

Again...do NOT visit:
mp3.com
mp3dimension
mp3mtv

K...well...maybe you're ok if you have your security settings set differently, etc...but I thought I was pretty darn safe! I went to a site to look for a song download..it redirected, and redirected and REDIRECTED me all over the place...next thing I know every time I turned around there were all sorts of pop-ups coming up...NOTHING was working on the way of blocking them and my virus protection kept asking me what to do etc...it was a mess! THESE were all detected because of those stupid sites...I *think* I have it all cleaned (or at least close to it)...see my spyware program wouldn't get rid of them...soooo...I was able to get rid of some by choosing "clean" when my virus protection asked and THEN do a spyware scan again...then it was able to get rid of some. Now I'm removing crap manually just to make sure I am actually covering all of the bases.
*edit* I forgot to add that while I was trying to update files (via net), dump files, scan files, etc...I was getting the dreaded blue screen "{Fatal system Error} The Windows Logon Process System Process Terminated Unexpectedly With a Status <blah, blah, blah, bunch of numbers> The System has shut down"

Re: AVOID THESE SITES!!!!

Good grief Mouse! You were under a full blown attack to take you over completely. I'm glad you have all the proper stuff to get your puter cleaned up. I had this happen back in November. I know your pain. I now have a collection of 12 different types of scanners that I use in rotation to keep everything in shape. I also have turned my browser settings to "PROMPT FOR DOWNLOADS" so that nothing slips through. I know, I know, it still does, but it does help immensely.

I refuse to download music of any type for any reason. If I want some other type of download, I go to CNET.com or some other highly reputable site where I know I will get a clean download.

May your scanning be over and your computer be released from the demons that tried to possess it. <G> LOL

Re: AVOID THESE SITES!!!!

Oh goodness...I still have one pop-up that I have to hunt down...not as bad as the zillion (definite exaggeration..lol) I had earlier...the list I posted above isn't even ALL of what I had...I started working on this last night <sigh> I have "prompt for download" also, but you're right...it doesn't ALWAYS help...because that is exactly what happened last night...I was just SEARCHING the site and all of a sudden there was a new icon on my tool bar and the message "download complete"...yeppers, my heart went <ka-thunk>..lol.

You can get CWShredder, McAfee Advert Stinger and HiJackThis here if you don't have it. All are great scanners. In addition to these, I use Panda, Trendmicro, McAfee and some other traditional scanners for viruses. I use the purchased copy of SpySweeper, the free version of Spybot Search & Destroy and my newest scanner is CrapCleaner ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]).

Last week I got a new Dell Laptop. For all the speed and power that was supposed to be built into it, it was slow and was driving me crazy. I did a scan of CrapCleaner on it and a defrag on this humongous hard drive and gained a lot of speed. When it drags now, I do a CC scan and a quick restart and it generally solves my problem. I am planning on adding more RAM to it soon. I should have had it maxed out when I had it built.

Good luck in finding the last of your gremlins.

Re: AVOID THESE SITES!!!!

Ok....I am just now getting to enjoy my PC again. My WHOLE problem was hijacked hosts! Lemme tell ya...NOT a simple thing to get rid of!
I found a post @ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
made by ViperGTS619 and altho it DID get me well on my way to having things taken care of, there were more like TWENTY some odd files that needed to be deleted instead of the 2-3 he/she posted. Thankfully they were all ez to find because I knew approx. when all of my troubles started.
(files that were created when my troubles started: all found in system32:
C:\windows\system32\KXDCZ2.DLL

C:\windows\system32\n2l80c3uef.dll

C:\windows\system32\m682lglo16qc.dll

C:\windows\system32\DNTRANS.DLL

C:\windows\system32\PWGFILT(2).DLL

C:\windows\system32\VMSAPI.DLL

C:\windows\system32\dnps0177e.dll

C:\windows\system32\en44l1hq1.dll

C:\windows\system32\p44uleh91h4.dll

C:\windows\system32\MUMTAPI.DLL

C:\windows\system32\EGENTCLS.DLL

C:\windows\system32\AKMFD.DLL

C:\windows\system32\WBNMM16.DLL

C:\windows\system32\EQSVC(3).DLL

C:\windows\system32\NJTLOGON(3).DLL

C:\windows\system32\ORENGL32.DLL

C:\windows\system32\gpj0l31m1.dll

C:\windows\system32\hr6005jme.dll

C:\windows\system32\g6jolg1316.dll

C:\windows\system32\hr4605hse.dll)
I worked for 3 hours today on this alone...NOT to mention all of the hours I put in before this.
I HIGHLY recommend "KillBox" This is the site [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] ; here’s the download link [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
and the program "HijackThis" <-- GOOD GOLLY DON'T USE THIS IF YOU AREN'T SURE OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!!!! In the log 01 Hosts and 02 BHO were my problems from the beginning.
One night I fell asleep before I shut down the PC...I woke up with about 10 shortcuts on my desktop..from dating services to gambling/casino sites. I HAVE a pop-up blocker, but it didn't do a single thing when it came to this mess. At every turn there were pop-ups to all sorts of sites and advertisements. Believe me...this was a MAJOR PITA!
Folks...keep ALL of your programs up to date...AND gosh please set your security settings for better protection...it won't be 100%, but you will NOT want to deal with this mess. I have had the PC running for about 2 hours now w/o a hitch <...crossing fingers/knocking on wood...>....this has been the longest I have had it on since I made the original post w/o having to fight pop-ups.

Re: AVOID THESE SITES!!!!

Thought I'd mention another thing...if you're wondering if you've been hijacked...go to

C-windows-system32-drivers-ETC-host

I opened the file with WordPad...there it will show (1, all or more of the following):

69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com
69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

It didn't change my homepage....it just brought up new windows when I connected to the net...more so when I used google (homepage).
