I guess I was fortunate because I come from a family where I have: 1 sister same mom diff. dad... 1 bro. same dad diff mom and another sister same dad diff. mom and also 2 step brothers LOL!! Now if that is not nuts... but I turned out pretty good I have a wonderful stepdad, which I know does not happen all the time for children of step familys. But if you are taught right and brought up right ,that is what is important. To many children today are not being brought up with respect ...My mom would of beat my behind if I acted that way in school , we all knew better than to ever give trouble at school. And I now teach my children the same , school is a place to learn not to cause trouble....

Re: 5 Year Old Girl Arrested!! Wow What do yall think of this??

I think things were different when we grew up hmsram. Parents have steadily become more and more indulgent, and the word "spank" has all but disappeared out of a parents vocabulary. That is OK for the Parents who feel its wrong, BUT they do discipline in other ways. Many people will say its wrong, and it ends there, no other discipline to the child that causes the child to REALLY regret their actions and choices.
Besides, you Did have a steady role model for a father, and I think that is super important for children that both parental roles are secure and steady.

I know! I mean I am no parent, but it seems like so many parents these days are so quick to defend their children, no matter what! I remember the hazing incident in a suburb of Chicago...there was VIDEO of these girls doing disgusting things and the parents were still were making up all sorts of excuses for their daughters. It's almost as if people are afraid to discipline their child...it might hurt their development or something.

I'm gonna have to disagree with whole step-parent stuff. YES, some families get totally screwed up in the whole process, but there are MANY who thrive and become better parents and stronger families because a/the parent(s) were smart enough to know they were doing children more harm as a result of mom and dad's broken relationship.

then giving them half, step, etc. family.
Many of us are better off for the fact we were given an "extended" family. I'd be lost if it wasn't for my "step"dad deciding to take a chance on us. My two older sons have a WONDERFUL "step"dad, my HUSBAND, and they have gained a lot by just having him in their lives. Without step parents my boys wouldn't even have a Grampy who loved them. I can tell you now that they don't even know my bio father, they know only of his NAME. I view many (not all) step parents along the same lines as those who adopt...they CHOSE to be a part of a child's life...Kenny (DH) and my dad could have easily decided they couldn't handle the responsibility of a ready made family...they didn't tho...all of these years later WE ARE A FAMILY...one WITH STABILITY and MUCH love.

Re: 5 Year Old Girl Arrested!! Wow What do yall think of this??

this is a tough one. You bet i'd be fuming if that was my kid but if it was my kid they wouldve have never acted like that either.
Parents these days give into kids these days to easy. I am a stepmom now and Id have to say i am a pretty good one. She loves me like crazy. But she knows that I will not stand for any of that bad behavior. It seems to be when other kids are around they try to get away with what the other kids do, I just give her a look and she knows that she better knock it off or we are going home.
Funny I was thinking just the other day how great of a kid she was, cant wait to pick her up at school today! I am surprising her with tickets to the hockey game tonight (shes 7 and has just found a love to watch it live).

Re: 5 Year Old Girl Arrested!! Wow What do yall think of this??

I totally agree with the questioning of the mother's attitude ("baby"). I alos agree that that kid needs a good butt womping. But, here is one thing I noticed....WHO CALLED THE POLICE IN THE FIRST PLACE? They didn't just stroll in there at that exact moment. Whoever called them should have known to call the school police. Maybe the school needs a policy procedure lesson. When my dd was in kindergarten, there was a girl that would either hit, kick, punch or do something nasty to her. I mad numerous trips to the school, and was told that their hands were tied because the mom refused to allow them to discipline the little darling. They would send her to the office for a little while, and she ould be right back in class. Please don't tell me I should have swithced schools because that was not an option. You have to send your child to the school that services your neighborhood. I didn't have a car, and the nearest school (besides ours) was a 30 minute bus ride away, with a change in bus routes.

Sheesh ~ of course the mother's going to sue. This is her big chance to get some free big bucks.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Everyone over-reacted there, starting with the child and ending with the mother. And now that mother's going to get her "piece of the pie."
