anyone here have allergies?

I never had allergies growing up. But as an adult I am seeing that I do have them. Especially to dust. I have never been to the doctor to be diagnosed though. Anyone else have allergies?

Re: anyone here have allergies?

I am allergic to many things. I went through allergy testing twice,,,...some of the things that I was postitive for were: several different trees, weeds and grasses, dust, mold and feathers.
I took allergy shots for awhile...I used to get three, once a day, every week. They were painful...made my arms swell up. When I decided that I really couldn't tell any improvement, I quit taking them.
Now, I just rely on nasal spray and Claritin. I have more difficulty in the fall, than any other time of the year.

Re: anyone here have allergies?

When I was younger I had severe allegies to mold spores...It was so bad I would have to get shots in my nose once a week, and also use the prescription nose sprays on top of other pills they had me on... Occasionally I still get the headaches now but it is no where near as bad as it was when I lived in Texas.

Re: anyone here have allergies?

I get allergies when the pine pollen is thick, and am also allergic to juniper pollen/dust. When it gets bad, I take a tiny allergy pill that works very well. It's WalMart's brand 'Equate Allergy Medication', and it's very reasonably priced for the quantity. It doesn't make me drowsy, but if you're sensitive to that, they might make a non-drowsy version of it.

Re: anyone here have allergies?

I've always had allergies to some degree...you can get tested to see what allergens you are having the most degree of problems from, and then try to reduce those. I.E. air purifier, better filtration on furnace/ac, getting rid of carpeting in the house, special brushs for cats/dogs. I saw drugstore.com had a real good price the other day on 60(75) tablets of Rite Aid Loratadine for $9(plus it comes in a bottle). This is the medicine that is in Claritin which came off patent. If you have insurance or have extra $$-need a prescription for Allegra, Zrytec. With these products they have different side affects depending on the individual.

Re: anyone here have allergies?

I feel like I'm allergic to the world....no j/k But I do have a history of asthma and a TON of enviromental allgeries, not to mention a few drug allergies, my favorite one Latex, and some pesky food allergies I take Advair 500/50, Singulair, Semprex D, and have a Proventil MDI for prn use. I usually visit my allergist every 3 months for a "tune up"

Re: anyone here have allergies?

I have seasonal allergies but they seem to be disappearing as I get older which is just fine with me. Mostly I sneeze more than anything else.

Re: anyone here have allergies?

Ugh, I have had seasonal allergies since high school. Last year, for some reason, wasn't too bad, but normally I'm on allergy pills from April-June. There's so much stuff in the air here! One thing I've learned is to 1) wash my hair in the afternoon or evening to get the day's pollen out before bedtime and 2) take an allergy pill when I go to bed. It helps.
