Unhappy How to ask an engineering question . .

Trusses . . anybody ??? I would like to ask about the (Wtc) Wtc 1 and Wtc 2 Flooring system, within each of the Twin Towers, but I have a problem with my writing. Yes, Most professional just don't go to bbs or forums. And Nope, I don't like to tell people "why" I ask; to make matters much worse is I have a problem in my messages or in a Forum in "Framming" the inquiry, fundementally. From all the many responses I either get back a confused engineer or someone thinks "he's kidding". So what if I not including my life story. I have used a very recent example but even here I would get. "What's on your mind or What about them" With this example from many statements of engineers there's a real support the idea that other skyscapers would have not failed. That said, I might not include that in the inquiry or forum. I could quote people but with the ammount of damage saying it wouldn't have failed would only place the focus on something other than the Open Bar Joists. Any recommendations or advise on how to make the question shorter. If I mention WTC ..........(Floor)Joist..................most people immediately know it has something to do with the Towers Flooring System. A very bad habbit I have including some near bizzare comparisons here it would be to a (catastrophic) failure of the towers as if the legs of a table kicked out from under or always
including "common knowledge" (somewhere in the inquiry) ex. "it" has to do with the Framming or the Floor Joists were Flat trusses. No one is dumb, they all know that, and yet ... Pointing that out assumes I must know nothing Another common error is being mistaken for my being almost condescending, I'd need some kind pointers Then have I told you about almost half of the guys assume there's some "kidding" taking place. Help. It's always the same, the problem in my personal correspondence and with people in "my" writing concerning some technical question. Your posting gets results, not mine, man. Again the engineers think I'm kidding or can't tell where the heart of the inquiry lays. Oh, but I don't abbrev. any of the messages must have something to do with the way in write my questions I would assume it's verbose or too wordy to be taken in the spirit in which it is meant I really don't blame any of them, when they've not much time to spend writing Can't I make the engineering question (including specs, and the quantitative data) concerning the open bar trusses' somehow clearer. I guess, any conflicting disagrees are disputed issues I can include or avoid that it's about the Twin Towers, is actually very clear but I have a problem in the phrasing How to ask an engineering question, please, I could use some kind pointers this problem with my writing (without comming across as some fruitloop)

Re: How to ask an engineering question . .

I also have trouble trying to write things out sometime.

And because I am not good at helping rephrase a question if someone here can not help you I would suggest going to Google Answers. There are some very smaret people that can help you there.

Thanks for entering a message especially in the way in which you have entered it I frankly had forgotten about that service (or group) at Google Thanks What a different approach, I am thankful to you for the suggestion I'm sure that others will have some insights Hmm, over there they will provide you with an answer. Who would have remembered that, I'll think about that new way to approach, but I do hope for some fix concerning this engineering question I'm having trouble with. My thanks for taking time to contribute or comment..[QUOTE/=MI6TWAM0SSAD]

Re: How to ask an engineering question . .

I am a Google Answers Researcher.

My advice to you would be to post a question that is understandable - because if the researchers aren't able to comprehend your question, what might happen is:

You'll end up with a lot of clarifications asking you what is your question, and could you please clarify this or that - with the end result being no answer if no one understands your question.

We have many customers from all over the world - and English is their second language, so that's not a problem. But understanding the question posted is a problem.

At the very least, it will just cost you 50 cents to post your question.

Be sure to price the question at Google Answers appropriately. There's a pricing guide you can look at on the site.

In retrospect, I think your best option is to post your question at an Engineering Message Board.
