A update on my Moms cancer.

My mom went back a couple weeks ago for her check up. I have pretty much posted each time there is an update on my mom.
But the jist of it is Aug.2002 diagnosed lung cancer
September 2002 had lung surgery.
September 2003 cancer then in her liver. November 2003 Chemo. May 2004 liver surgery.

So that brings us to now. Well the xrays showed several spots on her lung and her liver was enlarged. They did a CT scan and sadly enough there is cancer in the lungs,liver and in her lymph nodes behind the abdomen wall.
We are all totally devastated. On monday they will start chemo again just to ease the pain. There will be no more surgeries, no more biopsys. She is also going to be on Vicodin every 4 hrs. They are hopeing they can keep her on chemo, but the max is 6mths for chemo they can go if her body holds up.
The doctor says if she opted to do nothing then she would deteriate very rapidly, so she chose the chemo so that atleast if she can handle it she will have some time even though she is gona feel crappy...

Well I guess thats all to this update. Nothing good to report. Just alot of hopes and dreams that did not come true.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I don't really know what to say except I will keep her in my prayers. I lost both of my in-laws to cancer so I have some idea of what you are going through. It is never easy. You will be in my thoughts.

Oh wow...that is so sad. I hope that the chemo will help this time. My mom had breast cancer and I know how stressed we all were with that. I can only imagine what you and your family are going through. My thoughts will be with you.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I lost my sister to cancer last Christmas. The most important thing to us was that she not suffer. It really helped us to know that we could actually bring her home from the hospital. Hospice workers would have visited her every day to keep her comfortable. And it doesn't cost anything, so money need not be an issue. (My sister passed away peacefully before we could arrange it.)

Very sad. Sorry to hear it. Life is so precious. I hope you still have some time to spend together. My Mom has alzheimer's and our time together is not happy time. My dad passed away from cancer in 1995.

I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's cancer...I lost my Mom two years ago to liver cancer...so I understand what you are going through...try to be strong for your Mom, she needs it.
My Mom told me she liked how I didn't get all emotional and melodramatic. I knew she needed someone to be strong and positive around her, so I was...even tho I was screaming inside. Then, after leaving her side, I would totally break down.
It is so hard to go through such a thing....

Ok another update on my mom...First when I always think everything is bad news I have now realized each day we get good news and that is "my mom is still with us" Things have been terribly rough on us all since my last update. She got 6 month into her chemo and was going to take her last one and could not take it her blood levels were to bad. Currently the cancer is still in the liver, lung and lymp node behind abdomen and now also in lympnode of liver and lung.

My mom is such a fighter, and while I am extremely sad alot I am still happy she is with us still. Right now she is on a cancer drug called Terceva, not really sure how it will work because it has only been about a week she is on it. The drug is $2,481 for a month supply thank god for insurance huh
The oncologist said it generally adds about 6weeks to life expectancy, now thats not saying she will die in 6 weeks just add on 6weeks to her life, its not alot for the drug costing that much and mom said if she didnt have ins. she wouldnt take it, but for now thats all she can do and who knows there may be something else come along soon.
i do know they are in the process of testing new cancer drugs so maybe , just maybe we can get a miracle before it is to late.

Cherish every day you have with her, it means everything to her that you are there, and the time you spend with her will be a comfort to you if/when she loses this battle....

I remember when my mother was in the ICU fighting liver cancer...she was unable to get out of her hospital bed. I opened her shades, and turned her bed so she could see the new fallen snow that had fallen overnight on the distant mountains. Little things like that take on such newfound importance in times like that.......
My thoughts are most definately with you....and I'll continue to hope for a miracle right along with you.

All I can say is hang in there and will be saying many many prayers for you and your family. Watching our mommys being sick is very tough. Been there done that. Just hang onto God for everything you got cause he is the only one who can get you all thru this.
