If you have more than 1 kid, are their personalities similar or completely different?

My two girls are SOOOOOO different. My oldest is very smart, but has terrible study and work habits. She always tests high in the state tests, so she is often placed in a more difficult math or language class. But her grades can be anywhere from a F to an A. She really has no drive for schoolwork, and often forgets to hand in papers (thus the lower grades), or won't study for a test and flunks it. I constantly have to remind her to do her homework, or help her study for a test.
But, she is very creative when it comes to art or writing, (which she gets great grades in), and loves to read. We often read the same books, then enjoy discussing them.
She is very girly, a cheerleader, likes to do her hair/makeup, and wear pretty clothes. But, she is not overly picky about styles, and will wear almost anything I buy her. She is very respectful (never talks back to us), and loving....her teachers all say she is a real sweetheart. Her favorite animal is a dog. She will try any kind of food you put in front of her. Her room and bathroom vanity look as tho a hurricane has gone through.

My youngest is also very smart, but has the drive to prove it. She gets straight A's, and is in the gifted/talent program at school, and receives many academic awards. She does her homework right after she gets home from school, and studies on her own. She is always chosen as the teacher's helper, and is a gifted pianist who plays in talent shows and at nursing homes.
The last thing she wants to be seen as, is girly. I can't pay her to wear a dress or something pink or lacy, and it is a true battle when we have to go somewhere that requres dress clothes.. She is extremely picky about all of her clothes, right down to her underwear. I don't dare buy her anything without her being with me, for fear she won't wear it. She won't wear nail polish or do anything with her hair, except wear it brushed out, straight and long. Her favorite colors are black or red. She sometimes gives attitude...correcting you if she feels you're wrong...and doesn't like to be told when she is.
But, she is a cuddler, and even at age 10 still sits on my lap and has to have multiple kisses goodnight.
Her favorite animal is the cat, and is a super picky eater. Her room and bathroom vanity are clean, with everything having a certain place.

Sometimes it amazes me that they are even related to each other!

Re: If you have more than 1 kid, are their personalities similar or completely different?

My oldest son is one who can teach himself something like programming or a foreign language just by reading the book. He lives in his own studio apartment with only a fish tank, hammock and one chair. He doesn't like "stuff" to clutter up his apartment. He is definately a minimalist. But has taken fencing lessons and tango lesson. He volunteers at the local zoo one day each weekend and does landscaping. He has been a music circus season ticket holder twice. He hated high school and was planning on flunking out as it was not important to him so we convinced him to take the HS proficiency test, he had no interest in college. However has held the same office job now for almost 2 yrs. He prefers no meat in is diet at least he wont cook it at home. Will just have a can of soup or make pasta. He wont own a car and takes public transportating everywhere. Likes his peace and quiet and is shy.

My next son also hated HS but took classes during summer school so he could graduate mid term. He has worked consistantly since he was 15 1/2. Is now working as a Lube Tech during the day and takes college classes at night (to be ASE certified)and doesn't get home until after 10:00. He loves his computer games, still lives at home. All his extra money goes into his tool box and new tools. Bought his own truck and pays his own insurance. He will eat just about anything, especially meat. He is extremely talkative.

My daughter is very shy. She is only 6. Loves music, would rather have the radio on than the TV. (unless Lizzie Maguire is on, ha ha) She loves school at this time. Is an amazing reader at least for her age. She is very girly, loves to wear dresses and do her own hair. Favorite color is pink. She is a sweet cuddly child and loves multiple hugs and kisses throughout the day. She wants to go to her friends birthday parties and then wont participate when she gets there. She is just content to watch the other children play and have fun. She is more comforatable around adults than children. Unless its her cousins. She is very stubborn at times, not sure if that is the age or not. She is an extrememly picky eater. Won't try new foods at all, unless she decides she wants too.

Re: If you have more than 1 kid, are their personalities similar or completely different?

My boys are SO opposite. But right now it's hard to tell to what extent since they are only 4 and 2.

Bronson (4) is sensitive. He never did like to wrestle or rough-house. If you try to throw him up in the air, he'll freak out.

He's very smart and catches on to things quickly. As a toddler he was never into TV. He'd be too busy playing to pay attention. He prefers plain paper over coloring books and is very good at drawing - very creative.

He's such a SLOOOOOOOW eater. There are times it takes him an hour to eat a meal.

He's quite moody. One minute he's Mr. Polite, the next he's Mr. Mouthy. But his teacher says he's always a gentleman, so I guess he saves the mouthiness for his parents.

Oh and for size - Bronson was always on the smaller size. He pretty much wore the same size as his age.

Shane (2) is our little Clown. We call him Dozer (bulldozer) or Tank. He loves to play rough, and many times dominates the fights between him and Bronson.

So far he's not grasping things as quickly as Bronson did. And he LOVES TV.

Shane always eats surprisingly fast, and like his food quite warm (where Bronson freaks if it even seems on the side of hot).

So far Shane seems very even in his moods. Obvsiouly if he's not feeling well or is tired, he gets cranky, but is well-natured.

Shane and Bronson can pretty much Share clothes, and do! Shane is only 2, yet wears most things in size 4. His 4T jammies fit just right, so he really could be in a 5! He's off the charts at the doctor office for height and weight. He's pretty much the size of a 3 year old.

It's funny how different kids can be. You can always hear us saying "I'm sure Shane will do this or that, because Bronson didn't".

My boys are total opposites. Tyler is into acting, singing, music, and magic. Tanner is into sports, sports and academics. I'm kind of glad they have diverse interests and don't compete with each other.

Re: If you have more than 1 kid, are their personalities similar or completely different?

Same thing here, except with 3 kids it's morning, afternoon, and night. They don't even really look alike except for some vague resemblance to each other. I am always amazed when the boys actually get along. I think they really compliment each other. Jamie is so anal but he has to learn to cope with Eric's messy and wild behavior...so that will teach him something for later in life when he has to deal with "real" people.

I thought Susan was going to be this docile little girly-girl, but at 15 months she is already running the house and has monumental tantrums (I thought Eric was the king of that but he started way later and can't even compete with the baby).

I find that Eric (age 5) catches on to things much more quickly than Jamie (age 7). Although Jamie is smart, he works at it. Of course, I don't believe that Eric will do well in school because if he doesn't care about it, it's just not going to happen.

Eric is the gross motor skills king and Jamie is definitely fine motor skills.

They are all very musical though...I guess that will bind them when they are older. I'm hoping they will start a band and support me in my old age!

Re: If you have more than 1 kid, are their personalities similar or completely different?

My 3 girls are all different. They look different and have completely different personalites.

The oldest, who is 8, is very smart. She has always been advanced and loves to learn. She loves nature and exploring. She doesn't mind getting dirty.

My middle daughter, who is 4, is a girly girl all the way. She is almost as big as her big sister. She doesn't particulary like to get down and dirty. At the beach this child cried that the sand was dirty!! She is ususally in her own little world. Doesn't have much interest in learning school related things. She would rather play dress up or with Barbies or Bratz dolls.

Now the baby, she is 20 months old. She is the clown. She has a sweet nature about her, but also ornery rotten at the same time. She doesn't let her sisters push her around either, she fights back. So, far the baby seems athletic compared to her sisters. She can throw a ball better then both of her sisters.

LOL Kristin. My DD never had many major tantrums (just lots of minor ones), but otherwise she sounds like Susan. Since birth, she's had this independent streak, and did what she wanted without regard to what the other kids were doing, or what other people might think. Now that she's a "tween," there are some advantages to that type of personality. She doesn't "follow the crowd" or worry much about only doing something if her friends do it (such as student goverment, after-school clubs). She's successful in school and has lots of close friends. Probably the biggest issue I have with her behavior at this age is her short temper.

My DS is pretty much the opposite of my DD. They have alway gotten along pretty well, though now that they're older they have less in common so don't spend as much time together (I miss those times).
