you know you were a little girl in the 70's if.......

YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70's IF:

1. ...you wore that rainbow shirt that was
half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve,
across your chest, and down the other.

2. ...you made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake
Oven. You washed them down with snow cones from your
Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.

3. ...you had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a
stethoscope that actually worked. After training with
these tools you became an expert at the game
"Operation".

4. ...you owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a
basket. In the early 80's you moved onto the ever
popular 10 speed. Gosh that seat hurt.

5. ...you ever owned roller skates with metal wheels.

6. ...you thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute.
(Admit it!)

7. ...you had nightmares after watching Fantasy
Island.

8. ...you had rubber boots for rainy/snowy days. Your
shoes actually fit inside the boots (with a little
help from your Mom and some plastic bags).

9. ...you had either a "bowl cut" or a "pixie"
(not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill") because your mom
was sick of braiding your hair. How traumatic when
people thought you were a boy.

10. ...your Holly Hobby sleeping bag was your most
prized possession.
11. ...you wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

12. ...you begged Santa for the electronic game,
Simon.

13. ...you had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those
pink and purple shredded outfits.

14. ...you spent hours out back on your metal swing
set with the trapeze.

15. ...you had homemade ribbon barrettes in every
imaginable color.

16. ...you kept losing your mittens so your mom bought
you the kind that were attached by a string.

17. ...your Hello Kitty pencil case was cuter than
anyone else's.

18. ...you wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really
bad; you wore that Little House on the
Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high
neck in at least one school picture; and you despised
Nellie Olson!

19. ...you wanted your first kiss to be at the roller
rink.

20. ...your hairstyle was described as having "wings,"
and you kept it pretty with the comb you kept in your
back pocket.

21. ...you know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well
as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

22. ...you carried a Muppets lunch box to school.

23. ...you and your girlfriends would fight over which
of the Dukes of Hazard was your boyfriend.

24. ...every now and then "Its A Hard Knock Life" from
the movie "Annie" will pop into your brain and you
can't stop singing it the whole day.

25. ...YOU had Star Wars action figures, too.

26. ...you thought unicorns were real.

27. ...it was a big event in your household each year
when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Break out
the popcorn and sleeping bags!

28. ...you ever asked your Magic 8-Ball the question:
"Who will I marry, Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or
Rick Springfield?"

29. ...you completely wore-out your Grease, Saturday
Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack albums.

30. ...you tried to do lots of arts and crafts things,
like yarn & popsicle stick God's Eyes or those weird
potholders made on a plastic loom. Not to mention
lanyards!

31. ...you made Shrinky-dinks!

32. ...you used to tape record songs off the radio by
holding your portable tape recorder up to the speaker.
33. ...you couldn't wait to get the free animal poster
that came when you ordered books from the Weekly
Reader book club.

34. ...you learned everything you needed to know about
girl issues from Judy Blume books. (Are you there God?
It's me, Margaret.)

35. ...you thought Olivia Newton John's song,
"Physical" was about aerobics.

36. ...you wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes,
or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.

37. ...you had Colorforms

38. ...you wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

39. ...you had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side,
and a Sit-N-Spin.

40. ...you had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat!

Oh my goodness....I'm suffering from a major attack of nostalgia! My life just flashed before my eyes. I remember taping the sound from a Steeler game with my portable tape recorder. And if I hear the word pixie again, I might go ballistic!
Thanks for the memories.

I had a ton of friendship pins! And one day during recess a friend of mine and I snuck back into the school and stole the friendship pins off the sneakers in the hallway (It was winter, so everyone lined up their sneakers in the hallway and put their snow boots on.)

Actually, Strawberry Shortcake didn't come on the scene until 1980, and though I wasn't a little girl then, my oldest was born in 1980 and that's why I remember about Strawberry Shortcake (and her cat Custard).....and Huckleberry Pie.......and Blueberry Muffin...and Orange Marmalade.....and Raspberry Tart.......and Lemon Meringue......and THE PURPLE PIEMAN!!!!

(and yes, I named those off the top of my head!)

I can relate to MOST all those. I have to admit that the late 70's and early 80's run together. Thanks for sharing!

Re: you know you were a little girl in the 70's if.......

Thanks, Mayfly, for starting my day with a huge smile!

Gosh, I had almost forgotten about most of that stuff!

I was SO in love with Shaun Cassidy! "That's Rock 'n' Roll... c'mon everybody, get down, get 'with it'..." I'd watch the Hardy Boys each week JUST to moon over him.

I had one of those Holly Hobby shadow box pictures that was supposed to look 3-D. And a Holly Hobby doll, too. (I named my daughter Holly, BTW. )

I had the Dorothy Hamill haircut, and yep, I was in love with Gopher AND Bo Duke (though now I'm older, I think Luke is definitely the hunk).

The Donny and Marie barbies are still in my attic. And yep, I would tape stuff off the TV on my tape recorder with the cute little microphone. I had the theme songs to BJ and the Bear and One Day at a Time and The Jeffersons.. I don't remember what else.

The Wizard of Oz is still a big event at my house. When I was little, I'd always fall asleep somewhere around the flying monkeys, and it wasn't 'til I was much older that I got to the end and realized it was all a dream. I felt really gypped when I did, though!

Thanks for the memories,
Becky

Re: you know you were a little girl in the 70's if.......

I remember most of them as well. Born in 1970 so I had better huh? LOL! I remember running from my older sis a lot in the days of using the portable cassette recorder to tape songs off of the radio. I admit...I purposely waited until mid song and then made oodles of noise..LOL! HEY, she was bigger than me and I had to dish out pay backs in any way I could..LOL!

How about Ditto's pants. Anyone else have those? Remember the seam that went up the back of one leg, traveled across your butt and down the other leg. And of course they had to be skin tight, LOL It may have been late 70's early 80's cant remember.
