My roommate asked me to go to a club...

...a gay club! He and some friends were going out later this week and asked if I wanted to go along. Well I've never heard of this club so I looked it up and it turned out to be a gay club!

Well I'm definitely NOT going to a gay club...I think that's kind of weird for a straight guy to go. He didn't even mention it was a gay club either.

Maybe your friend did not know either. But even if he did know, I think you should go along you may even have fun. It may seem weird to you but you will know someone there so I think you would be ok

Oh I didn't mean anything bad. I have nothing against gay people or gay clubs, I just thought it was strange for him to ask me being a straight guy. And I mean to say it would be weird for me to go no that gay clubs are weird!

I've got friends and relatives that are gay... And I've went out with them to gay clubs/bars. I've had fun every time I went out with them. A few months ago I went up to Cleveland with a some friends and we went to a couple different places, spent the night at a motel and it was a blast!

If you would have went with him and his friends to a non-gay club, why not go with them to a gay club? <-Rhetorical question there! You might be surprised by having a good time just going out with a few friends and having fun.

Tough one!! But only because we are blind when it comes to any other lifestyle but what is the norm.

If you're going out with your roommate & some friends to hang out, listen to music and just have fun - then why does it matter if it's a straight club or a gay club?

Now, if you're going out in the hopes of meeting women, then I could see the problem I'd say you should go & just enjoy yourself.

I'm not opposed to going I would just feel awkward, since I don't want someone to hit on me or anything. Maybe I'll live a little and go, LOL who knows!

I think it would be hard to handle if someone hit on me at a club like that! I'd be embarrassed and wouldn't want to hurt their feelings.

Believe me, if someone started to talk to you and you had a 'feeling' they were interested in you, all you need to say is I'm here with my friend and I'm straight. You might meet a nice person.

I've had gay and bi friends over the years and it's no different than having straight friends or black friends or purple friends. A friend is a friend.

What you choose to do in the privacy of your own bedroom is your business and a friend will respect your wishes if you are upfront.

I hesitate to say "don't be narrowminded" because it sounds like I'm admonishing you. But in the long run - people are people.

It's just a night of going out and having a good time. Nothing more, nothing less.

I could totally understand why a straight male wouldn't want to go to a gay nightclub. The whole reason it's a "gay" club is for gay people to meet other gay people. And you being there will make the other men there think you're gay - why else would you be there right?

It would be like me - being married - going to a singles club.

We have a popular gay club in the cities - and I think more straight girls go there than gay people. lol I remember a conversation with a gay guy I knew about how it sucks that gay becomes "chic" and now the clubs meant to meet other gay mean have more straight girls than anything.

I've been to a gay club 2 or 3 times with my sister (she's gay) and had a great time. It's actually where she met her partner of over 10 years now!

I'm married so maybe my ring kept any "admirers" away, but I never felt uncomfortable or was hit on. Hey, come to think of it, I'm not hit on in straight bars either!

crazytimes, at the risk of sounding unpc, I can relate to what you are saying. Shainie said what I was thinking, that generally you go to clubs to meet people. Now I know I am going to get 50 posts after this with people all saying thats not the reason they go to clubs (lol), so I will say thats been my experience.

About "being hit on" and "not wanting to hurt feelings"... You shouldn't worry about it, just "appear to be uninterested"... You can go out just for the sake of having fun...

A short story:
There are two people that I was good friends with in high school, they had been friends since before Kindergarten. After graduating, etc the guy "came out" to his family and close friends. The girl was shocked that he was gay. And a funny side note is that her Mom and Grandmother were totally okay with his announcement... And she just had a hard time excepting it. Well in the hopes of showing her that it was not going to effect their friendship in an adverse way, he invited her to go out one night with him and his boyfriend.

She agreed with one exception, she wanted me to go too. He was fine with that and so we all went out to a gay club one night. It was fun... funny... and memorable...

I'm not into dancing, and there was a lot of dancing going on; so I spent a lot of time sitting at the bar while they danced. Well she would only dance with him, and spent the rest of the time sitting with me at the bar. When she had to go to the restroom, she made me go with her...

At the end of the night when we all were driving home... She made a comment that "I can't believe that not one person hit on me!" And the three of us laughed at her. She couldn't understand why we were laughing at her until I said; "Well, considering that you spent the entire night dancing with [him] or sitting with me, and you made me go with you every time you went to the restroom... People probably thought that you and I were a couple!" LOL

And then she was all shocked and embarrassed and was like "OMG!!! Do you really think that's what happened?"

LOL First she was upset she wasn't hit on, then she was upset because people probably thought the two of us were a couple! LOL It was hilirious!!!
