How to make DOD's pages load faster. In your user cp:

Change your # of posts to load. I had mine set at 40 and it was extremely frustrating waiting for all pages to load. I changed it to 30 and saw a big improvement.

Huh? I didn't see anything about how many pages it loads. But I did see (under Options)something about how many replies load in one thread. I changed that from default to 30. Is that what you meant? TIA!

Number of posts that are shown on one page of a thread.

weacross... the bottom line is DOD loads slower than any other website I ever go to. My work involves searching all over the web every day for my research. DOD loads terribly slow, and posting a reply isn't any better. I have a super fast computer, with an extremely fast broadband connection. It's very frustrating, and I'm thinking there is something in the code that is making it load so slow, or a problem on the server end.

I agree that this site has always been one of the slower loading sites, but lately it's gotten really bothersome. Plus I'm on dial-up, so you can imagine!

Weacross... I also have dial-up. A long time ago I got tired of watching the forum pages jump up and down as avatars and signatures containing graphics slowly loaded, so I disabled both. It speeds up the loading process considerably.

I recently switched to Mozilla Firefox browser, and it loads super fast on that browser. Everything loads quickly on that browswer, compared to IE.

Since learning that DSL still can't reach me I've had to go back to dial-up and slow DOD. Thanks Toby Lee; I hope this helps somewhat.

Would you please tell me how you disabled that... is it web-wide or just for DOD. I'd like to do that for DOD.

ou can do it just on DOD...its in the same place that you change the amount of threads per page.....go to user CP and then options....I have done both, change the amounts of threads per page, cut out avatars and sigs but it still loads slower than any other site I have been to, included graphics intense gaming sites!! I dont post or read here much because its crazy to have to sit for a minute with a blank screen every time I click on a page!!

Mayor/Darkwolf - someone! Please address this issue - many people don't tell you what's happening because they get so frustrated watching a blank page they go elsewhere. It's worse at GCC than any other forum at DOD, but in general DOD loads like molasses.

Don't tell me it's my computer. My computer has no problems except at DOD. Don't tell me it's my ISP. Thanks...
