Unhappy I killed a bird....

After replying to a previous post about how far you would go for your pet, I started feeling guilty and needed to come clean...
I am a bird murderer I know it sounds bad but I tried to miss it I swear. I was in dh big truck and coming down the road I saw the bird and I swerved to miss it, well apparently it must have went under my tire anyway because after I got home in the street I saw the bird, I killed it

On a different note, after coming home I headed back to town and on the way a rock flew out the tire of an 18wheeler and cracked dh truck window. He told me to stay out of his truck after killing the bird and the windshield all in one morning....

Ok now I feel better to of gotten all that out

hmsram, I know just how you feel. And I always know when I'm driving too fast.....the birds just can't get out of the way.

Sad part is I was doing less that 10mph because I was getting ready to turn into my driveway... It is kind of weird lately because we have seen several birds that can not fly around here, I wonder if they are sick or something...

Re: I killed a bird....

Sometimes birds are successful when they try to commit suicide. Not your fault.

Re: I killed a bird....

I had that happen once with a cat. It was absolutely horrifying. I was driving on a dark winding narrow road with pouring rain.UGH, I felt so bad!

Re: I killed a bird....

Well, would it make you feel any better to know I saved a bird today? We had a terrible storm last night. Amidst the thunder and lightening and trembling dogs, I had to listen to a chorus of happy frogs singing outside my window. When I woke up this morning, my first thought was "I can't believe those frogs are still at it". Then a bit of lucidity set in and I realized I was hearing birds rather than frogs. Next thought "wow, that bird is so loud it sounds as though it's in my house". Then a commotion from the kitchen. I got up and found a cat and a dog on either side of the trash can, and a squeaking bird hidden behind it. It was a young bird, probably fell out during the storm. I'm sure the cat caught it and brought it in thru the dog door. I woke up my daughter for help (someone had to hold the cat while the other one caught the bird). Placed it outside on the lawn (closed the dog door) and watched. I thought if it was injured I would take it to the vet on my way to work. Within a few minutes it recovered enough to fly away. So you see, hmsram, maybe the balance of nature for birds is still okay!

Re: I killed a bird....

I killed a bird once while driving my Jeep Cherokee. It flew up just as I passed it in the road going about 50 mph. I heard the thump but I never saw it come out the back or side of the car. When I got home, the poor bird was stuck in the grill! It hit the grill so hard that it broke part of it and was wedged inside! It was the grossest and most horrible thing to have to pry it out and throw it away. At least there was no blood, I think I would have fainted if there had been. Yuck!!

Re: I killed a bird....

JillyB71, that happened to my brother once too! He was just learning to drive, so he and my Dad were out "practicing." They couldn't have been going very fast. It was terrible. My poor Dad had to get the bird out.

Re: I killed a bird....

Whelp...has happened to me also. I feel terrible, BUT it's not any of us really TRY to hit ourselves a birdie. I've hit a raccon (a Momma and later I saw that her babies all were killed later), a BIG dog, a couple of cats, and I can't remember what else really. I always tried to miss these critters, but obviously I was never successful.

Re: I killed a bird....

Try not to feel bad, sometimes it is unavoidable.
A few months ago on the interstate, going 75mph, a HUGE turkey vulture swept down right in front of me going for some other poor creature who was road kill. (and had obviously been road kill for awhile!)
I swerved a bit, but clipped it with the front of my van...feathers flew everywhere. But, DD saw it fly off, so I didn't kill it.
I once hit a cat also, on a four lane road. I was in a middle lane, and it skirted in front of the car on the other side of me. It was just a blur before I hit it. I knew I couldn't have avoided it, but still felt terrible about it.
